Looking to fix some of the minor problems before they become major problems and it seem like the idle air control valve is on the way out. Saw a video where someone replaced theirs and then used the Nissan Data Scan II software to mimic the Consult II tool and allow them to perform an idle re-learn. I'll probably grab NDS II anyway because it will be cheaper and easier than having a shop or the stealership replace the IACV but not too sure when that'll be. I would also like to see if anyone else has used the software with an R50 who can tell me which features they've used or if any features are only for newer vehicles. Due to the video I at least have the idle re-learn confirmed. Also goes for NDS III if that is R50 compatible.

Most of the features are not available to the R50 models because the ODB II port is not wired to output data for many of the features NDS has to offer. I bought NDS II for my '02 PF when I was playing with some ignition upgrades. Being able to advance the timing a few degrees was really an awesome feature to have after I installed high output coils and an ignition power booster and the IACV relearn feature was very convenient, compared to the clumsy way it needs to be done manually. Being able the disable the ignition to one cylinder at a time is also a cool feature to help diagnose some problems.

Other than those three features, a decent scan tool gives me all the other data that NDS II also provides. NDS III will not do anything more for you, if it even works at all to take the data from your ODB II port, which has a limited wiring circuit to output what NDS could handle if the data was available. NDS III is for those vehicles with CAN bus and the many more available data sets that a CAN bus wiring network can provide. The R50 models have none of that.

The Pathies and their derivatives were the last of the Nissan mohicans to use only a K-line interface into the OBD port. That was true up to '07, in '08 they went to CAN in addition to K. However, starting in '03 they all did have a CANbus, which at first connected to the cluster and later to other systems. I don't know if anyone has ever done it, but in theory you should be able to tap the CAN wires at the cluster and run them to pins 6 and 14 on the OBD connector to make the ECM CAN-addressable like later models.
