Well... for the record.. you can put the shifter in backwards... popped it out and spun it 180 degrees and viola` fixed... and bezel now fits.. I also got the clutch figured out.. bled it and found out I didn't screw in the shaft that goes into the clutch MC far enough... fixed.. anyone know where to get a Throttle body gasket and IAVC gasket (i may have the initials wrong, but the part under the fuel intake (surge plenum) and bolts underneath)... any help would be great... Pat.. I'll take pictures tomorrow and send them to your e-mail... if I get time tonight i might do it..

James, why dont you find some cheap wheels even if they are not SE's and just use them. Are you just using them as roller's or what?

Those are tempting, thanks pat. I'm actually looking for something to put on my S14. I traded the ones on it for an ae86. Not sure if I can come up with $250, but $100 I can do.

I'd love a nice classic GT500, but we settled on the new body style.. sorry.. wanted one car I didn't have to fix.. 100K warranty... still a VERY fun car, esp with the top down... Next project will be a AC Corba replica.. thinking either a 5.0 or 4.6.. wanna autocross that one, maybe a little road racing.. 427 isn't good motor for either (too heavy). And then I want to build up an old classic truck or older Datsun (510 or Roadster)....

I might be able to put all the tires in the Vert (top down of course) ... I think I need to put a small road trip on it anyway.... I'll let ya know..

yeah its funny because alot of people think im crazy for not liking the mustang or mustang based cars but hey thats just me. im pretty much crazy about German cars and Japanese cars and then my highly coveted MOPARS.

John as far as the AC Cobra goes just get a miata and drop in a ford V8 and get the the parts that convert it to look like a Cobra. Remember the AC Cobras were brittish cars that got a motor swap pretty much.

Com'on... if you saw a Corbra next to you at a light it doesn't do anything for ya.. sorry Miata.. now talk about a chick car... man..even with a v8.. it would be a chick on steroids..lol.. an AC IMO.. just looks sexy.. nice curves.. and not bad balance... a Miata with a v8 - i would think would handle like crap in almost every situation... even in a straight line.. even if you could get it to hook up.. such a short wheel base.. b ut you are right.. AC didn't come into it's own until Shelby got a hold of it...

ha ha ha thats funny because before Shelby got his hands on the car it was concidered a girls car....lol.

dude a v8 miata is the ****, in case you dont know there is a convertion kit for the miata to make it look like a AC Cobra and with a ford V8 under the hood the miata out performs the real AC Cobra in all aspects. you need to think about the fact that its really the same concept as the first Cobra, light wieght car with a bigger more powerful motor. also to add on horsepower tv they built a v8 miata cobra clone and before they started the build they had to defend the choice to do it but then after the car was done the car spoke for it self. as for the short wheel base need i say look at the AC cobra??? and it was a monster. and to add the miata is the most raced car on any weekend, ever heard the miata cup/ spec miata races???

ha haa ha never though i would be on a nissan site defending the miata which has proven itself time and time again to non believers. ohh yeah and in stock form a miata is a girls car that has more potential at being a track star than any other car in its price range.

ok my q is if anyone else thinks the mustang was "a girls car" befor shelby got ahold of it that is the stupidest f-ing thing ive ever heard mustangs have always been "muscle cars" all though there were a few years they sucked but all of the big name cars went through that in the 80's and as far as the miata goes even with the cobra conversion it is still just a poor copy of one of the best cars ever built and by the way the AC Cobra has nothing to do with a mustang it was its own car and the shelby cobra mustangs where upgraded mustangs that where in their own time bad *** beasts that handled and draged very well and as far as the new shelbys they are bad *** too the gt500 makes 500 whp and i have seen them in completly stock trim lift a front wheel off the ground and they handle etxtreamly well and dont get me wrong but the miata is a awsome track car in its own wright but its no ac cobra its a toy that is used because of it low cost and cheap parts and that it is very easy to drive for ametures however the ac cobra is a car built for racers ones that know what they are doing

and if you like the miata so much get one then you will be driveing the ultimate chick car

solid rear axle FTL.

anyways, yeah i would have liked to get that car. my brother was going to buy it but since it sold he bought some coils instead, oh well. the next couple weeks i need to finish my suspension anyways. need tie rods BAD, and i wanna get some toe rods, rucas, and bushings. anybody have any suggestions on what i should get as far as those things? thinking about just getting napa ones because supposedly the tiens are only like 10% stronger than s14 and are the rubber boot type ends. i dont really wanna spend 300+ right now on the spl setup either.

as i recall the mustang was never meant to be a muscle car it was built to be a weekend leisure driver, thats why after all the other car companies were making muscle cars Ford desided to jump on the band wagon and give the Mustang an image makeover and some more power so it would sell better and be able to compete with what was on the street. The new Shebly GT 500 is known to not preform as well on the track as the Roush which has less HP but better rear suspension. It has been stated by many in the auto industry that the new GT 500 is a strait line car at best.

nobody said the AC cobra had anything to do with the mustang cobra other than being a product of Carol Shelby and sharing the Cobra name. I said i wouldnt want a mutang or any car based off the mustang even the old gt 500's. then john said something about wanting a AC Cobra replica project and i simply brought up the idea of the v8 swap for the miata as a means to build a car that out performs the Original AC COBRA and that they make a conversion kit to make the miata look like a Cobra.

i called the mustang a girl car because people act like they are the **** but have only just now broke the 300hp mark when imports have been doing it for years and well i see more girls driving them than guys.

now back to the miata hmm research would do some good here because when the guys at mazda designed the Miata they were building a car that embodied the idea of oneness between man and horse or in this case a machine. so the car was built with only one thing in mind making the car and driver one. hmmm sounds like a racer might have been behind that. i dare you to go drive a miata and to come back and tell me that driving it wasnt fun. i would choose a miata over a mustang any day because ive driven both of them before and the miata is a better car overall. as for you saying the miata is a girls car yeah alot of women own them but then agian dont women like convertables? if the miata would have been made with a hard top would so many of them would be driven by women? i think not.

haha, this is a funny argument.

Comparing a Miata to a Mustang is like comparing a 240 to a Mazda 6

OK..OK.. settle down kids...lol.. I just put that out there cause I've been a fan for the AC for many many years... For the record the orginal concept of the Mustang was a leisure cruiser (were first produced with 6 cylinder engine), but initial design was to be able to adapt car to more power later if car was well received... Now the AC Cobra does share at least one key element with the Mustang .. that would be Carroll Shelby.. The AC race car initially had a british made 6 cylinder.. when contract to use motor ended.. Shelby was brought on board to adapt a bigger motor (V8) into the car as well as make some vital suspension changes.. the smaller motor AC were VERY potent racing machines and most preferred when road racing (very balanced car and motor). The 427 Cobra was a handful on the track, but had unbelievable power... back then to put that kind of power out was rare... Shelby is known for making balanced and powerful machines... Yes the current Mustang is making 300 horse from the factory again... it's not the first time... 427 Mustang... GT500... remember those... Chrysler was one of the key car MFG. to "Revive" the Muscle Car segment...and spur some interest to the old classics.. (anyone remember the Prowler throw back to old Hot Rod days).. excitement was reborn... Now the Miata comments.. My Inlaws have one.. Anniversary edition... Nice, very under powered, shifted notchy and cramped interior. In fact, they bought one after using my 240 a few times. It was the closest thing to it. I like the car.. handles well, but with a V8? I think it would be a handful under power. I actually prefer my 240 over the Miata ANYDAY. For one .. mine has a back seat and more room... My top is a Power top. My trunk (although not huge) can fit more than a Chicklet in it. Now with SR and 5 speed... WAY WAY better... Wow ... sorry guys... let play nice.. we are all car guys and love to go fast.. no one is right or wrong or better than the other... I want to know when someone is going to organize a meet up that way... I feel like I'm the only one down here, so will travel. I have a little more to finish up on the car to make it trip worthy, but close... very funny posts .. i have to agree.. just goes to show car nuts are car nuts..

Now back on topic.... got the downpipe and had an exhaust made 3" back from downpipe... needs a muffler tho.. sounds ok, but with top down gets a bit noisey. still workin out the bugs from swap.. tighten clamps.. look for leaks.. ets.. Rims and suspension are next.. then 2 way rear end.. then new top and onto the interior..

im fine (not upset) its just that a cobra in any form is not a "chick car" and imports making over 300 for years lets see the supra mk4 made 320 and cost an *** of mony and that was in 94 and the z32 made it a few years before but those were not afordable and the mustang all be it only made between 225 and 250 with a 302 it was a whole lot cheaper and made 3-400 hp with ease and if you forget back in the late 60s and early 70s the mustang made (in certin trim) made much better than 300hp are we forgetting the boss 302/351/429 and the fact that sevral other company stomped the 300 hp mark oh and in 96 the cobra went to the 4.6 4v v8 that came stock with 305hp and i c alot more girls driveing the miata than V8 mustangs and like i said the v6 converable mustang is a chick car and also dont forget the terminator cobras make 400 wheel stock evan though ford claimed 390 stock and you made my point for me the miata is a race care for the masses as in for people with noe experiance you can hop in a miata and drive the crap out of it and be ok but if you dont know what your doing my cobra would kill you however you take even the most powerful miata the mazdaseed with the turbo and a cobra stock to stock the cobra would kill the miata on the track and its a whole lot roomier and btw i have drivin miatas my budy has a damn nice one and i hate driveing itand go ahead and put a v8 in a miata it will be like randys fc with the 351 in it fast as hell but dont turn for crap unless u spend a butt load of money on handling

any ways back to the real world for a min

GoinTopless240 glad to see you got it going we realy should set up a meet perhaps in the upstate seeing as the majoratiy off the guys i know on here are from up this way

i guess i got the love for sexy lined cars from my pop.. he had a 57 Vette ... Duntov edition no less... wish i had one of those.. very rare now.. he had it back in 57... but he had tons of cars... some hot rods.. some not.. but it was how it started... where i grew up we had lots of racing (road racing), NE area..(Limerock, Watkins Glen to name a few). We even know a few who made big names for themselves.... I can't say much about our GT.. wife gets to drive it most.. but as I said before... I used it to lure her away from a New Beetle Convertible..(I wouldn't have been able to drive it)... Like the car, good power, decent fuel mileage, 4 seat convertible... If I could have a 2 seat Vert..hmmm.. looked at 350z's, Crossfire, Vette.. all convertibles, but with 2 kids.. couldn't do it..lol..

Yeah, we've talked about going to Deals Gap and playing with the 240 after I get the suspension and rear diff sorted out...even thought about getting a J30 rear just to play with, until I can get the two way locker.. we'll see... still trying to finish the vacumn leaks.. idle is still staying at about 1100, but PS pump still has no belt (adjuster is on it's way from Japan). AC has no belt either, but waiting for kit to use KA compressor.Hoping to put 5 lug hubs in soon.... not sure to upgrade brakes first or not..
