check your plugs, if the maf wasn't working right = runs rich = fouled plugs

Plugs were just replaced less than a month ago and the plug wires are good. The distributer cap looks ok for now; a little bit of build up on the electrodes, but I cleaned them up and it shouldn't be giving me any trouble. I went to try cranking it today, but to no avail. At this point if I wanted to go anywhere, I would have to tow it. Does anyone know if a maf from a dohc will fit a sohc? Theres one available locally that I like to pickup and hopefully be back on the road by the weekend.

don't think a dohc maf will work... but don't quote me on that. You should still check your plugs, things could have gone downhill that quick.

Yea, I suppose so considering how much black smoke I've been seeing. I'll take them out and check them on Sunday some time between football games.

well I guess I'll be taking a trip to the parts store tomorrow. I'll pull the plugs out to see how bad they are. It makes sense of why the car doesn't crank over, cause there's no fire in the hole.

that would almost be tempting if I hadn't already bought my 89 pignose beater for $500. So when do you think you'll be getting another zenki? When you get ready let me know because I've ran across a lot of good deals on them down here in GA.

From what I've seen, you should be able to get yourself a relatively clean zenki with a 5 speed for around $3500. If you really look hard, you can find them around $2k-$2.5k, but you may have to swap them over to 5 speed. Here's some links for examples:

Thats not too bad at all. I'll definately have to save up some more too. I would LOVE to get back into a Zenki. If not then i have a backup plan in my head. I'd much rather have a 240 though.

what's your backup plan? Honestly imo a good backup plan to an S14 is called an S13, since you can get good running ones pretty cheap.

just picked up a front strut tower brace for the S14 today for $20. A guy I know sold it to me because he bought a better one for his. Although, I'm not sure there's a difference really... But I installed it then went up the road and I was surprised how big of a difference it made in the curves.

Well im not sure if i want another S13. My backup plan however is an older S10 to get me through college or so. Infact i could probably keep my Hatch too. All i know is the car im going to buy NEEDS to be straight drive

straight drive? you mean straight shift?

I think getting an S14 is a good idea, but you know me, always presenting alternative ideas to think about; there's an advertiser on NICO who advertises redtop SR20 motorsets for $1750, which in my opinion trumps any engine choice for the money and ease of installation. (rb20 motorsets can still be had for as little as $1000, but are not direct bolt in; require more $$ spent on mounts, driveshaft, etc.) You could easily drop one in your hatch in a weekend, especially with help from some of us. All you would need then would be 5 speed swap parts ($200-$400??), spliced wiring harness ($100 for S13-S13), top radiator hose (adapts to KA radiator, $29 from XAT). Be sure to budget in anything else that may be missing from the motorset, like the maf sensor, air filter and pipe, and you're still coming in under $3000 easy. I'd be more than willing to help take the guesswork out of some of that stuff for you since I have done it already without really knowing what I was doing. You could just take digital pics and I should be able to help you get it running. Maybe if there's a couple of hundred left you could take the car to Maaco.

On the flipside, S14's are newer, and usually in nicer condition and if you find a good one it won't need all the work your car needs and you'll be set. I like both ideas, I just thought you should be presented with the idea of being able to have a boosted vehicle bring a smile to your face as you roast the tires all the way through second gear. Your choice, S14 goodness and creature comforts or being able to hear the whoosh coming from your turbo as you take off in a big cloud of smoke. (wait a minute, hey I have both! j/k) Just don't buy a ****ty S10.

Well, I have good news for everyone...or at least to those that are interested. I got Employee of the Month for November I get a plaque with my picture on it, $25 in cash(check), and a special parking space right in front of the building. Lol, I don't know how much good that last part will do me since my car doesn't move from the parking space @ my apartment complex. I do plan to use that $25 to get my spark plugs and pig tail so that I can hopefully get some use out of my special space.

that makes me want to build my S14 suspension so bad. that thing just doesn't feel right around curves. It's fun and all, but I know it could handle so much better. You'll have to get it together so we can hit the mountains.
