navteq update $190.00!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

On my way back from the mail box I dropped the notice in my paper recycling bin.

i wouldnt update my NAV map system for next 5-7 yrs. Unless you live in Brand new Built town, but your new update might not have your area updated yet.

I don't plan on updating the EX navi. I have also not updated our other Infiniti (2006 G35 Coupe) as it hasn't been a problem. Only once did I ever notice being on a road that wasn't on the map...at it was a very minor 1 block long road in an area that I don't frequent.

Short of a new freeway being built around here (not going to happen) I can't see this coming up much.

FYI: I just got a new EX35 and their is a new map out. The service manager told me that they will update this before I actually take the car. A know fact: California builds over 200+ new roads each month. Cal trans supervisor just told me this, so not having an update for 5-7 years which some one suggest on this forum, is totally wrong and is crazy.

For example, I just moved to a new community that was just built in the last two years. It consist of 55 new roads and 2500 homes.

I was told that the dealer has the map data on their computers and if you pay the $190 to Navteq, Navteq gives you an "activation code" that you bring to the dealer. They punch in this code and upload the map info to your navigation system's hard drive.

The dealer charges 1-Hour labour for the upload.

In the end, it's a big ripoff and I wish I knew someone that could just upload them for free!

Looks like the take rate for the $190 update hasn't been that great. I got another offer in the mail today, the price is $149 until the end of July. You still have to pay for the install so the total for the update will still be pretty silly.

Are you serious? I was not told this at all. I asked the dealer today when I read this and the dealer told me that he will do it without a charge for me. They will write it up as a warranty update. I guess it depends on the dealer.

The mailer I received says there is an additional dealer install charge. If you can get it done for free then it would be a little more reasonable.

they are destroying themselves on these updates. They should have a kiosk at the dealer with the maps loaded so you can see what has been updated or not. As someone else stated I won't buy this for 5-7 years, and by then I might have sold the car.

These updates should be a downloadable DVD image that you can burn and install yourself. an installation fee is ridiculous.

Did anyone ever get this update free from the dealer? I would never pay. Why? for only a ten minute software update. It should be like an operating system, once you buy it, you get all the updates free for life. Anything to make extra money. What is this world coming to? I bet if Inifiniti gave this service free, they might sell more cars. Its all about service in the end. Right?

it is a little capricious to take off the above post when there are entire threads on this forum dedicated to getting a torrent of the disk.

Yep - I agree COMPLETELY!! It could easily be tied to your VIN so the ISO image wouldn't be easily pirated.

Cheers,David

Yes, we are. No worries. It is on the nav units that we get the hard drive.
