I am looking to buy a G35X, 2005. The car does not have a Nav Sys.I wanted to know if it is possible to add a factory unit to the car.

I'm not sure, but im leaning towards no. When I had my 04 maxima, I asked the same thing to Nissan, and I was told that the Navi's are installed when on the assembly line. I'm thinking the G35 would be a lot harder to do because of the way its set up (with it popping up out of the dash and all).

Not sure as to your specific question but you can upgrade the head unit with aftermarket parts and put in a navi system then - that's what I'm planning on doing. Of course you probably already knew that so apologies if I'm stating the obvious.

I'd sure like to know if there is an easy way to make it so the stock DVD Nav system will play regular movie DVDs. I'm sure it is something simple in the wiring, which Infiniti has to do for the system to be legal.

I've seen it done in the TL, the kit about $1000. I'm sure something very similar can be done in the G.

It can be done, but is quite expensive and requires a lot of work. I recall seeing pictures somewhere of someone who documented doing this. The entire dash was pretty much out. The wiring has to be completely swapped out. It's not an easy or cheap job. You'ld be better off finding a G35 with nav built-in or go with an aftermarket system.

All I can say its a pain in the *** to do and it won't be as good has from the factory! How I know is because some guy that was buying 350Z GT from my work wanted the NAV in it but don't want to wait 3 months-up for one so one of the tech install it and it took almost 2 days for him to do it since everything has to come out!
