one layer of sound deadener should be just fine... what do you say applebonker, 100 sq ft for the entire trunk + a little to spare right?

You know, if the price of sound deadener is an issue, do one section at a time..(trunk first, doors second, rear quarter panels and tire wells third... but I promise you this, after you sound deaden your car, it won't even sound like the same vehicle... every conversation in the car will be crystal clear... bluetooth pics up less road noise and sounds clearer to listeners on the other end... stereo system sounds louder due to decreased round noise and sound loss through panels.... IMO, for $200-$300, there isn;t a single better all around investment to make in your vehicle, sound system or not!

I'd say 100 would be plenty. I did my entire trunk and trunk lid with one layer with maybe 70-ish square feet. If you double up in a few problem areas this will consume all of the 100 square feet of deadener.

Sound deadener should make the trunk silent when it is being closed. The doors are the same way. When they close, it will be with a thud, and not like someone is pounding on a bunch of cans.

Sound deadening the license plate is a good idea. I've found the best way to do this is with a closed cell foam. Your traditional sound deadener will stop the metal from vibrating. However, the biggest source of noise from the LP is in the contact to the trunk. Therefore, you would need a barrier between the LP and the trunk lid. Sound deadener will work, but a closed cell foam (like Ensolite or Second Skin Audio Overkill) will work better. A combination of these two types of products should be even better still. Also, you may want to put some of the foam between the LP and the LP frame, as those two can make noise vibrating between each other.
