Hi guys, new to the site. Been lurking for a couple of weeks until I bought a 2011 M37 S this past Tuesday, then I registered on the site.

This morning I took the car into my local dealership to get the following work done under warranty, which appears pretty common on the M37:

- Replacement of peeling steering wheel switch assembly
- Reprogramming of ECM/TCM
- Navigation update that adds call waiting functionality

My question is this -- does the navigation update done through the voluntary service campaign (P1235) also updates the maps or does it only update the software that runs the navigation system? In other words, if I want to get updated maps, would I still need to purchase the DVDs from http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERS ... EtbRQiwE2g ?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

I think navigation updates to a 2011 are done at the dealer no disc is needed just a couple hundred dollar download
I would doubt you get map updates for free with this service but certainly the dealer doing it can tell you

Welcome to Nico!

Mazz is correct. The newer M's have a different type NAV system. If you go the Navteq site and purchase the upgrade directly from them, you won't receive any discs. Instead, Navteq will send you a code key specific to your car. You must then go to your dealer, give them your update code key, and the dealer will use that code key to download the updated maps to your NAV system.
I don't know what dealers charge for the entire service, but I know it takes a couple of hours to perform it. Knowing how dealers usually work, it may be less expensive to purchae your code key directly from Navteq to avoid any mark-up the dealer may charge on top of the actual Navteq price. However, you cannot avoid the charges from the dealer to do the download. There was a thread on here about this previously and the tech guys reported that there is no way to do the download yourself and no other shop aside from the dealer is able to do the download, so saving some money on the price for the new code key is your only way to possibly reduce the total cost.

Thanks for the replies guys, and thank you for the warm welcome.

To be sure, is the page from the link on my original post above incorrect is reading the following then?
Your shipment will include a total of 5 DVDs.
Larz, in a similar thread from yesterday you mentioned:
I usually wait until May / June to upgrade - Navteq does a $50 off special about that time. Aside from that, you can check on Ebay because people who upgraded to 2014 usually try to sell their 2013 or older discs. If your car still has the 2005-2006 disc, you may be able to find a disc on Ebay which will be years newer than yours at a great price.
but if you do that, you won't be getting a code from Navteq that would allow the software to be loaded in your car, will it?

Sorry for all the confusing with this, and I do appreciate you all's patience.

Edit: hmmm, so maybe that's part of the difference with the newer 2011 and up models?

I just had a look at the Navteq site. They even show an illustration of CDs and also a user's guide that will be shipped. Perhaps they have changed how updates are done, allowing you to by-pass using the dealer completely? Last time I checked this out, Navteq stated they send only a code key to be taken to an Infiniti dealer, but obviously that seems to have changed this year. This is what comes from typing without double-checking yourself for accuracy! I humbly apologise for causing this confusion.

Maybe ring them up to verify: (800)362-8837 or Email: [email protected]

Thanks so much for posting that the discount is active. I'm buying today... for my 2011 M37S. My current map version is 09-10 MAP No.1b so I'm hoping there is some significant updates. If anyone wants to see at a high level what this update gives you in your area, you can go here: http://mapchangedashboard.navigation.com/

Probably not the right thread for this question, but I didn't think this was worth starting a new one.

For the life of me, I can't find the special characters in the phone system screen. I'm trying to name my phone, and can't find the apostrophe, but I know it is possible because the person who had the car before me had used them. All I can get is upper case, lower case, and numbers. How do I get the special characters?

Please let us know how this all worked out for you. I would like to take advantage of the deal ($129) but only if its what everyone is saying it is.

Thanks

I definitely need to update my maps next year. I just hope they include all the changes in NOVA. So much construction over the past few years.

What is considered "newer M"? Like 2012+? I have 2011 M37 and bought the latest navigation upgrade (Map version X9} 2014) in February and it came with 5 discs. I installed it in about an hour. http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERS ... EtbRQiwE2g

Can the discs be used to update multiple cars? Or does it come with a cd key?

I believe you have to get the key code from your nav system before you order, but yeah only for 1 car.

I'm hoping someone can assist me with the settings for the navigation system in my 2013 M37. The system works fine and I have updated to the 2014 system/maps. When I enter a destination, the screen displays the travel time to the destination and counts down the minutes. This is OK but I would prefer to have the system display the predicted arrival time at my destination if that is possible. Can anyone tell me how to change the setting?
