MY 2008 M35 navigation screen indicated, last week, HDD is not functioning, contact dealer for assistance. Car is out of warranty so
went to local Nissan dealer. They ordered part, but it wouldn't work properly (car wouldn't start). Found out it was wrong part
number. My question. Is this a problem that could affect drivability at some point? Need to do some long distance traveling in the
next two weeks. Dealership person said that was a gray area.

Welcome to the forum.

This should have no effect on the drivability of the car. What did they change? Me thinks dealer is a bit clueless. I see no reason why anything to do with A/V would affect the car.

Thanks for your rapid response. They didn't replace anything. Tried to install a replacement A/V and the car wouldn't start. Re-
installed original. All is well. It was my question to them about drivability. Their "gray area" response was not comforting. Common
sense would say there is no connection but I can't help thinking about the "cascade effect". Anyhow, found a local place says they can
repair on site. :)

Well I'm stumped. I work in the IT field and technology is my middle name and there is virtually no way that I could see the A/V (screen, radio OR hard drive - which part did they specifically try to replace?) unit being paramount to the car being able to start or not. Very weird.
