Post

Hi Everyone! I've been watching this webage for weeks and I finally decided to chip in!

I just bought a black AWD SL premium/moonroof/leather dealio and I'm loving it (would have gotten the gotham grey, but got tired of waiting). Anywho, my question is those of you who have car navigation systems, which are the best and work well. Garman? Tom tom?

Also, as far as pricing goes.. the dealer had a $1000 markup on the car and then tried to offer me MSRP on the car. Fortunately, I have been paying attention and talking to other dealers online and I already had a standing price for $1000 under MSRP.. so after some dealing I did get that price (alone without my husband) So, those of you out there.. DO NOT PAY MSRP OR MORE!!

Welcome drea!

Good work on the price! I agree.. don't pay MSRP or over.. it's a bad deal.

From what i've heard, Garmin and Magellen are great Nav systems. TomTom is pretty good as well. You really get what you pay for with these things. The technology for location is all fairly similar, but the interface and ease of use are what really make the difference. Plus some have additional features like traffic warnings and such.

I cheaped out and got a Mio system a year ago for under $150.. it works ok.. but is a real pain to use.. the interface is just terrible, so it gets pretty frustrating to use.

Just my 2 cents - I have a Garmin C340 and absolutely love it... It's compact, versatile, and you can update it via a USB cable connected to your computer. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I have a Garmin 360 (Built in Bluetooth, MP3 player, Audiobook player, and picture viewer - 4 hr battery life) and love it. I would highly recommend any Garmin, but the 360 is great!

I don't own a Nav system but if I ever get one I'd get the Tom Tom mybuddy has. I was impressed when it never lost sight of us even throughthe Holland Tunnel into NYC.

I like the Garmin units. They are compact and have a very intuitive interface. The screen resolution is great. And putting the unit (I had a Garmin 350) in "pedestrian" mode when you are on foot in unfamiliar places, really works well.

I took the unit to the south of France with an SD card of France, and it worked flawlessly. It was extremely helpfull and not to mention, helped maintain the marital bliss when it came to directions.

I'm now very interested in getting the Garmin 670 which has maps of europe already installed. My 350 unit was stolen while at work. It also has a larger and wider screen. It has Bluetooth for the days I don't drive in the Rogue. I'm spoiled with Bluetooth in the Rogue.

I've found that it's all a matter of personal taste and what features you prefer. The top brands have lots to offer these days and you could hardly go wrong with either the Garmin or Tom Tom units.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 360 and LOVE IT. I've had a few Garmins and they're definitely the best compared to the other ones I've seen.

I bought a MIO c310 a year ago and it's working fine. I think many GPS units are over priced. Don't buy the real cheap one but def. no need to spend $400 or more. CNET and amazon should give you enough reviews to help you make a decision. I think a unit priced $150 to $250 is the right price to handle regualr day to day use.

But just like your Rogue, extra features = extra cost. If you need the bluetooth (you probably have the ear piece already), MP3 player (you have a radio and CD player in your car), photo viewer and video player (it's a GPS system, it's cool but not worth the extra $150)...

my long 2 cents...

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly where I've been looking, (Amazon & Cnet) still working on narrowing it down to least expensive without missing something that I want on one. You're right, I don't need the extras, but would like one that has most of what GPS is capable of. Looking at the Nuvi 200 right now.

Just traded in my 2008 Rogue AWD-SL with premium package (98,500 miles) for a 2011 AWD-SL. Does anyone know with the built in Nav system, do you only get the XM Traffic updates as long as you are paying for the XM subscription? I've always paid for XM in my 2008 Rogue since I bought it 3 years ago because of a 100 mile daily commute to work, but I am now only commuting a couple miles a day so I'll probably let the XM expire when the 3 month trial runs out. Will I lose the XM traffic updates? Thanks, Pam
