I have exactly the same question about the navigation system in my 2013 Murano. The easiest way to see the file structure is to change the *.slc and *.hlc extensions to *.csv, and open them in Excel. (If you don't have Excel, you can open all three files with the free app Notepad++.)
There are 30 or so fields in the *.slc file, and they are separated by commas. I can figure out what only two of the fields are: longitude and latitude. There was nothing that indicated where the display name, street address, city, state etc. are stored. And many of the fields have 0's, 1's and -1's in them, signifying that they are probably flags of some kind. The home location file has few fields, but I don't know what the data signifies.
I've been using a standalone Garmin GPS for a long time. This is my first in-car GPS unit. For all its sophistication, I'm amazed it can't import addresses and points of interest as easily as the much-less-expensive GPS units can!
