Anyone else got any more news on this possible 1-per-year free nav update/download?

The way the updates for the HDD nav systems works is you log onto the website (I don't know it now but I will find out on Monday when I go back to work) pay the fee and you will be issued a download code. Now within three days you will need to take it to the dealer and give them the access code. Once they have the code there is a secure website that only the dealer has access to to download the file and install it in the car.

It is no a fun project and I have yet to do one but I will reread the procedure and share it with you guys as I feel I have left out a few key steps. But the short if it is that the code is only valid for three days, it's non transferable and only good for one use. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is how the system works.

Steve, we would certainly appreciate any details you could give us.

I have been checking the Zenrin/Navteq site, but they still don't list an update for the 07-08 G35. Have you been notified of an update? I wonder if their site has simply not been updated yet.

Thanks!

To be honest with you I am not sure if they are still using Zenrin/Navteq. I will indeed check it out as I am now curious, and do not have the answer for you.

Ok so I didn't forget ab out you guys. I looked into it today and just got the same answer from the people I asked they all said that Zenrin/Navteq have the program. I looked into the programming procedure and there is NO way at all to do it with out the special update kit, ConsultIII, and the Vehicle Interface. I have to speak with one of the engineers this week and I will pick his brain about it. I will find out where this information comes from, although I have a feeling the Zenrin is the source for it they just have not released it yet.

EDIT- I was looking at their website again and I am sure that is where the information is from the key difference in the year is the new update procedure where no CDs are mailed out.

I was quoted $129 from Infiniti. As stated they give you a code to bring the dealer to install. Wish there was a way to split the cost. I will never upgrade for $129.

Why is that always the attitude of people from RI. lol Lucky for you nothing ever changes around there. But if you think about it cost per year over the last 3 years is not as much. The dealer will typically charge an hour to install this as it takes pretty much the majority of an hour to do, but that has nothing to do with the cost of the map code. So actually you are splitting the cost of the upgrade up.

Attitude? I was giving my opinion that I would not upgrade. My Nav works fine. I have better Nav on my phone so its not needed to spend $129. I could care less about how many hours it is to install. In another opinion I don't think Infiniti should even charge for an upgrade. Money is not an object for me, if I want to spend $129 I do. Just do it when its needed bro

I grew up there I knew the common outlook. RI and the Jersey Shore have too much in common for my taste.

What are you asking them to split with you? Why would they buy nav software for you Navtech charges ~$180. Are you the first owner of this car?

Along with updating the maps there are small detail type things that are changed, very similar to the portable Nav units.

The reason why it cannot be updated via a CF card is the Navteq file is 7GB and the CF must be formatted as FAT32 which has a 4GB limit.

I don't think the $200 upgrade is worth it. I have 2009 iGO and Navigon maps on a $100 5" Windows CE bluetooth GPS with TTS. I also have TomTom on my iPhone and Garmin on my wife's BB9700.

Our 8y old subdivision does not show on her 07 G35X (that we picked up 2 weeks ago)

This is ridiculous, I found the 7GB 2009 Navteq update files and can't use them. What is this 9.5GB drive anyway? Nevermind, I think it's a Seagate ST1 10GB, 9.5GB usable.

This might be a bit of a noob question, but is the update for the maps only ?
My car is a Japanese Nissan V36 and I'm wondering if I can do a US G35 update on my centre console to make it in English (rather than japanese) ?
