Anyone know if it is possible to swap out the NAV unit (DVD drive) between a 2006 and 2008 M and been able to take advantage of the new 08 NAV features?

It is highly doubtful,the 08 uses a HDD (Hard Disc Drive) instead of the DVD based system the 06 uses. I will try to look into it but the unit cost would be pretty steep, ~$1500-$2,000 maybe more plus the software.
I also think the display control unit is different and the 06 lacks the NAV traffic function the 08 comes with when equipted with XM.
It is a good idea and I am curious what would need to be done I just do not think it is a practicle mod.
