Just completed a 498 mile trip in my new to me '08 G35. If I had followed the routing provided by the nav system I quite possibly might still be on the road. I have made this trip numerous times and the $200 portable Garmin GPS in my '06 Pathfinder is always right on the money. I usually make the trip in 7 to 8 hours depending on stops. The G35 nav system not only could not figure the correct route but would not realize I was not following its directions and gave constant uturn and backtracking commands. The ETE function started at 9 hours and was off by 2 to 3 hours until I was 2 hours from home.
Any one have any ideas or do I need a bigger hammer?
TIA

The nav system is hit or miss. My phone is better imo...

I do not like Nissan's nav. Not intuitive, cannot use it while driving, etc. i didnt spring for that option when i was looking to purchase my car for those reasons. i like my Garmin and its Australian accent. Plus, it already had all my waypoints saved.

I like having the NAV in my car...after the bypass ;) It's quirky but generally works fine.

My nav is the original release of 2008. Would an update bring it out of the 20 century?

its possible I have no idea what the updates from Nissan/Inf may cost. Joe can probably elaborate. With the costs of the updates from Garmin, you can almost buy a new unit. I do undestand that, just like any software, there are pirated versions available on line. Most retail Garmin units come with one free map version update.

I just really prefer to use my add-on GPS. i think that even if I had in-dash nav, i would still probably use the Garmin.

Updates will cost around $150-200. To do the update, it takes about 1.5 hours of labor...they have to remove the head deck. Your local dealer may have specials every now and then.

This is not something anyone can do...it requires special equipment to load the update to the system.

Go to this website:

Enter your info and then bring your receipt to your dealer. For about another $80 they do the update there.

Good link, so +1. Joe was consistent with the price he quoted. Looks like it will vary depending on dealership though. There does appear to be a discount for updating the maps now. Id jump on it if it is something you definitely want to do. Check with your local dealer to find out cost for install.

Thanks for the info. The nearest Infiniti dealer is 2 hours away so the local Nissan dealer holds me hostage. $100 bucks to download the $100 buck upgrade. The nav system is virtually worthless now so I guess I'll bit the bullet. I recently attempted to input an address in Stone Mountain, GA, a surburb of Atlanta, and it kept defaulting to built in addresses and finally just gave up the ghost and said unable.
To add insult to injury, someone recently stole my Garmin out of my VW while in the shop. The shops response "what Garmin"?
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

eww. well, i am stuck 3 1/2 hrs from Mobile, AL dealer and 4 hrs from Jacksonville dealer. i am 60 miles from a dealer in Tallahassee but they are in bankruptcy and cannot do warranty work. last time i had any done, they trailered my ride to Jax and I was in a rental for a week. the play sucked.

Well dayum! I thought I was two hours from a dealer. Looks like Mobile will have to be it for me also. How in hell can an Infiniti dealer go bankrupt?

where are you located? the owner was embezzling money. he had to pay huge restitution for some illegal activities so they filed bankruptcy. i would call them and see if their restructuring is done. they may be able to do it now,

I was just there all week for the holiday. We need to meet up and kick some tires some time. You can see where I am in my profile.
