Thanks, I'll be interested in seeing if there is a fix. My understanding is that a lag occurs because of the transmission time between satellite and receiver, but the GPS SHOULD make some type of prediction as to where the vehicle is and location adjustment based upon speed (which the GPS can also determine). The problem on the EX35 is most noticeable at hwy speed where sometimes you can be 500' or more away from a road that the GPS says you haven't even reached. The turn by turn directions are pretty accurate since you're generally moving quite slow as you approach the turn. All in all, not a disaster but should be better given the suburb technology of the inifiniti unit.ex81 wrote:I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's quite frustrating...especially when I never had such problems with my $100 Garmin unit. I guess one question is how you define "problem"....... 99% of people would not see any issue. To make a long story short, there are frequently times where looking at the Nav screen you would think you were just approaching a street, when in reality you just passed it. I'd say the "delay" is less than 2 seconds. Drive with the "where am I feature" running and you'll see this clearly, e.g the nav says your say 100' from a st. when in reality your just about on it. UNLESS there is a fix, or our units are causing a problem, this seems to be an inherent issue. I tried adjusting the "nav position to make the nav "think" the vehicle is further along than it is...this always self corrects after a few minutes to make the nav marker dead center with the nose of the vehicle marker...so I think the nav knows where the vehicle is, but is just slow to update on the move...I'm not sure if that can be adjusted.sg77 wrote:I haven't noticed this problem in mine.Just a random guess... are you using a different size of wheels/tires than the car came with?
Did you find out anything over the weekend?ex81 wrote:I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's quite frustrating...especially when I never had such problems with my $100 Garmin unit. Anyway, I'm taking my car in this Saturday for an oil change, so I'll be sure to ask them while I'm there.
Hmm that's interesting. As I said above, You know you can adjust the car icon to a different spot, like a little ahead of the true location (I think almost all navs that "seem" too have dead on nav do this), but ours defaults back to the actual location with the inherent delay, under 2 seconds at most. I'm surprised that this issue hasn't received more attention, as Infinity's seem to appeal to techies.ex81 wrote:Well, the dealer said everything looked fine...and also attributed many of the problems to inaccuracies in the map.
So it just looks like our units are inherently "slow"
