Hi there! I'm new here, but someone on another forum site told me that you guys are the best of the best and the ones to answer this question. (Forgive me for not taking the time to search all the pages for this topic, but I kept getting sidetracked and reading other topics and didn't get very far!)I love my 09 LE but the one thing that drives me insane is the user-UNfriendly nav system. To not allow input unless the car is in park is insane. I asked on the other forum if anyone knows of an override, and was sent here. Thanks in advance!

Depending on what you want to "input" the Voice Recognition system (especially in the Alternate Command mode) is pretty good at a number of Navigation functions. Have you tried that? (see chapter 9 in your Navigation manual)

I also found it useful to customize the Nearby Places list (page 8-5 in the Navigation Manual) so the categories I use the most while traveling (Fast Food!) show up on the 4 or 5 categories you are allowed to search while moving.

If that's not good enough, and you have some basic skills at wiring, the thread titled "Play DVD's on Nav Screen 2009 Murano LE!" pinned (STUCK) at the top of this very forum has everything you need to know about how to modify the wiring of your Murano so it thinks you are stopped, even if you are traveling very fast. (this includes the mods needed for your Nav system)

Greetings from the staff at NICOclub! I am glad to have you as a new member of the Murano Forum! That is awesome to hear the great referrals, we do rock here!

There is a perfect solution to your Navigation system desires. All you need to do is install a Double Pole, Double Throw switch. You will interrupt the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire and the E-Brake wire going to the back of the stereo head unit. This is fairly simple to do, I have personally performed this modification. By doing this you will be able to (at the flip of a switch) have full functions of the Nav system even while the vehicle is in motion and driving. You can also take things a step further and install a DVD player that would play on your front Nav screen that you can watch anytime!!! Let me know if you need any help!

You actually don't even need a DPDT switch. A single will do for the VSS wire. No need to switch the e-brake wire, just go straight to ground it as it serves no other purpose.

Can you give me the steps on installing this? I have a 2009 Murano and I would love to have my navigation work while I drive.

Thanks

True, that would work simply for the Nav override, but if you are already going that far, you may as well interrupt the Parking Brake wire so you can watch video while the vehicle is in motion (if you have the color screen).
