$129 for HDD based (2011+)...but still better than what I paid back in November ($179).

Save your money. Don't be a fool like me. My 2012 said it had the 2010 version of the maps so I thought an upgrade after 5 years is due. The website brags about how many points of interest and speed limits they have added. What a joke. They still don't have the speed limits where I live in Los Angeles. They only have the freeways. Even my $89 Garmin that came with free lifetime maps had the speed limits for all of the surface streets.

That's strange, my 2011 nav is still going strong, when me and the family be traveling, it shows the speed limit for different states and every time I see a speed sign, its spot on, no issues from me.

Am I missing a setting or something? Mine only has the speed limits on the major freeways. Before I bought my car, I test drove a M37x. It seemed to have the local speed limits and even gave me an annoying message every time I drove over the speed limit. I remember it saying 'the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour' every time I went 26. That car was a 2012, the same year as mine. I went through my manual and all of the settings. I didn't see anything that mentions this feature.

I bought my M37x in December 2014 and as part of the deal the dealer installed the latest and greatest Infinity Navigation 2015 North America Map V X9. To my disappointment it only shows speed limits on major highways. My 4 year old Garmin shows both speed limits and current speed on all highways as well as most surface streets. In addition ZAGAT data is no longer available in Infiniti HDD vehicle navigation system updates. For $179 cost of the update this is a major disappointment.

I would like Infiniti navigation to do a proper update on these systems and notify us when it is complete. Unfortunately, a Garmin Navigation unit stuck on top of the dashboard looks out of place in our M-37s, but on a long trip I might consider using my Garmin GPS on the dash to get the necessary navigation information while I am travelling.

I'm honestly surprised as how "low tech" factory built, in-dash nav systems still are after the advent of the smartphone. I still use mine on occasion and it sure beats having your phone out, but now almost everyone owns a smartphone with navigation that is *FREE* with on-the-spot updates to maps, speed limits, POIs, etc. Just seems nuts to me to spend $100+ to get something that you already most likely have, and can get it for free.

Here's a thought. Build a nav system that has tethering capability to your phone. Tether off of your phone to download any updates. Use google maps as standardized on all nav systems so that updates (and paying for them) are a thing of the past. I know it's a loss of *some* revenue, but I honestly do not think it will ruin a car company. In fact, it might bring in more customers and can be touted as the next new thing.

Tesla's new cars all come with a 17 inch touchscreen that is automatically updated and kept current through software downloads. It uses Google Maps for navigation. I would imagine that all luxury brands are going to have to copy their systems in the near future.

I do have to say that the controls in the M37 are the best around. Using a touchscreen is a poor experience and dangerous while driving. Infiniti has a well designed button for everything. I figured out how to operate everything without looking after owning the car for about a week. The new system in the Q50 is awful. They really took a giant step backwards.

I am hoping that a company designs an aftermarket Apple CarPlay system that can be installed using the current touchscreen. That would be a nice improvement. I'd love to get Waze built in to my car.

It's be a good idea to get stock in Tesla, if you did that kind of thing. Tesla, IMO is breaking all the fronts in the automotive industry and doing it the smart way. They are definitely going to be the manufacturer to beat in the future. Now if I could only afford one...

I feel like I just bent over and Infinity kicked me. I have a 2010 M35 and spent $157.94 for an update map on line. I'm waiting about two weeks for the disk (because the order stated "billing address & shipping address") to do the update so I called Infinity navigation to find out when it shipped. Although the order page states the product is "in stock" and gives a "part number" the product does not come on a disk. I'm informed the dealer has to install the update for an additional $99.00 for a total of $256.94. I'm also informed it states on the order page about the dealer installing the update and there are no cancellations. How wonderful, thanks for telling me. Thanks again Infinity for making the point on how stupid I am.

I have an old Garmin I paid $129 bucks for with lifetime maps, I also use a smartphone with Google maps that are free. From this day on I'm on "high alert" with anything to do with Infinity "on line". I feel like Infiniti blind sided me and took advantage of a customer.

Welcome to the forum.

Where did you buy the map from? The site everyone gets them from (first one in Google results) is Infiniti.Navigation.com (aka NavTeq) and it clearly states that you are buying JUST the 'code' when you pay that price and that another service fee is applicable.

That being said, you are in the 2011+ M forum which is a little different in how the update is administered (you get the unlock code and can do it yourself as I did)...the 2008-2010 models also had HDD but I don't think Infiniti allowed those to be done by the user.
