nav prob - 2003 Infiniti M45
nav prob
any body having probs with the nav system on 2003 m45. my screens comes on but no videoor data. So in turn nothing works (radio CD tape heat air) I took it to the shop and they said it might be the computer. The shop said it will cost alot to fix. He said I can do two thing buy a extendedwarranty or sell the car. Anybody knows where the computer for the nav system is located.

If it is just the computer controlling the system, it may not be too bad a price - although labor tend to be the most of the cost. However, if the entire NAV system is non-functional, this is apparently an expensive repair if you are not in warranty.
Yes, I would strongly recommend extended warranties on modern cars with lots of electronics ... the repair costs tend to be pretty darn high otherwise. This is not unique to Infiniti, by the way.
As one alternative, you can occasionally find used electronic components at junk-yard places - not always, but sometimes. You may need to call around a lot of places - not always local to you.
Finally, consider giving Joe Tsensky at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com a call if all else fails. He has helped us NICO folks with low OEM prices (works at an Infiniti dealer) that have helped many of us keep the cars on the road.

You didnt turn off the display by accident did you? I dont know if that could be the case, but I did it a few weeks ago and was confused....Good luck!Kyle

how did you turn off the display. It comes on by its self when you turn the car on. It worked all day until about 9pm now its off

Sean08, yes you need the DVD NAV brain unit in the trunk needs to be replaced and yes it does retail for around 5k. I went through the same issue with my m45. Now I do have a used but in perfect working condition unit in my possession and can cut you a real nice deal. Let me know.
