What gives with the Map service they use Navteq.

I get my G and my home address does not come up,street has been there for 4 years so I am told
to contact Navteq and they tell me they update every 12-18 months and that Infiniti is sent
the upgraded maps and you have to pay to get it?

Do these people believe in updates in an easier fashinon??

If I do Myquest or use my portable GPS no problem my address is there.

I have a call into dealer who knew of this problem when I picked up
the car when they went through the process of showing me how things operate
which I know better than them having come from a G 37 already!

I hate this stupid stuff.

My Nav system can find my house, but thinks my road extends at one end when when it does not - and it always tries to route me via the non-existent road. However, almost all Nav systems do the same - my Lexus ES had the same problem, and the Thomas Bros. Maps (I live in the LA area) show the same non-existent road. I have only found one system (a hand-held Mio) with the street correct. The problem seems to be that the road was originally planned to extend, but was never completed. It seems like in this situation, Infiniti should be willing to update your map database. Lexus used to do that (for free) if you complained - I had it done once for my ES.

Yes,thanks for the reply.I talked to my sales rep and he talked to the GM who said they would upgrade it.

My big gripe is the wait,I had a portable GPS system that did the map upgrades via computer.

Would be nice to download to a CD and put it in the car to upgrade the maps.

Oh well,I just want my home address loaded in so I can set it and use the commands
to set the home dest. from wherever I am located and let the system take over.

How do you like the interface ?

o me it looks choppy and inferior to some portable GPS UNITS (such as the nicer magellan)

My big gripe is the fact that Nav systems purchased with the car are

a. not as mobile as the ones sold
b. updates are slow in getting into the system to send out to owners who have to pay for them.

I own a Garman GPS which I liked but had to put away everytime for fear someone
was going to break into the car and steal it,but it did a nice job and looked good.

The one with the G is ok,have not had enough time to use it for a solid opinion.

I've had my 2010 sedan for 6 months and put 6,300 miles on it, mostly highway. I still prefer my Garmin over the Infinity Nav.
The Garmin system is a lot more user friendly and cost considerably less. When I drive my Ram p/u I use the Garmin.

I have been happy with my Navigation system so far - but the car is only two months old. I am still in the "demo" mode for the XM system, and have not been impressed with the traffic warning system. I get flash messages about "event has occurred in area" but can't find anything when I expand the map - and it seems to be very generous about classifying traffic flow - I drive under a freeway overpass and can see the traffic crawling along, and the system shows green or amber. Don't know if I will pay to keep the traffic service. The only other issue concerns how sensitive the automatic headlight system is - it turns on the lights and puts the Navigation system into night mode (which is pretty ugly) when it is still bright and I would never turn on the lights myself. It will also switch on the lights when driving under a freeway overpass in the middle of the day! I have been leaving the auto system off most of the time. I have the sensitivity turned down, but it doesn't seem to help. There needs to be more hysteresis in the system - it needs to wait a few seconds when the light dims before switching on the lights.

I will tell you the few things I like getting with the Nav. now only have it 4 days so what
I have learned so far.

1. Voice commands are great and ability to go from audio to Nav to phone and Info.
2. Music box fantastic, storing the amount of CD's.
3. Storing favorite artist and songs for xm and than having the system notify you
when they are playing on another XM station to switch to!!

you have to store the artist and title,I believe you are allowed 8
when XM is playing you will see a small menu screen lower left on the display
screen, touch it and the choices come up for what you want to do.
When you hear a song or artist playing go to that menu screen
touch it and put it in storage.

whenever the song or artist plays a box pops up on your screen
to notify you and you can hit yes if you want to go to that song.

So you have to actually hear the artist you want to remember, right? I guess you can't just enter an artist name directly. That would be nice. I have not explored all the menu options on the system yet.

yes that is the way I did it,hear the artist and store it once and when he is playing or group
you will see it pop up and the choice will be offered to go to that artist or group.

I don't have this menu on the screen - maybe that came after the 2008 models. Does anyone know if a software update would give me this functionality? I really miss that from my old car. I learned a lesson too - don't store the Beatles - that thing was beeping like crazy!

I had the 2008 G37s Coupe Prem/without Nav,so I did not have that function. Not certain if the 2008 with Nav had it but
it sounds like they did not.

I just finished a weeks vacation using my Garmin (Ford Edge rental...ooof ) and I far prefer the Infiniti nav system. While I thought the Infiniti system was a bit annoying with "too much information" I realize it was better than my Garmin which had too little information and caused quite a few missed turns.

So, my G is brand new to me. I had a Sportster 5 in my old car (plug and play) on Sirius. And I loved the notification feature. Can anyone verify that an 07 with Nav has this notification feature?
Thanks!
