Wouldn't it be cool, if this would work in my 1994 Q45?

I am almost tempted to buy it, and try to figure it out.

That would be prime..... I wonder if youd have to do all your own wiring and such, or if an adapter exists.....

I think you could either buy the 2nd Q or do this Pioneer Nav system write up, uses DVD's. It's a 2 piece system which would fit in the Q's Double DIN opening. MSRP $3500.

This system is a little less (MSRP $2700), but requires you to mount the Touch Panel somewhere???

One more Pioneer, but it is a single DIN and would leave you an opening below the head unit. Still pricing MSRP $2200.

This GPS Nav (MSPR $1800)system from Kenwood, the resuires a touch screen to control.

Here's an Touch Screen (MSRP $1300) from Kenwood. Again, not sure where you'd mount??

Here's an In-Dash (MSRP $1200) that "should" support the above.

If you mount the Kenwood GPS unit remotely, you could use this Double DIN (MSRP $1700) to control the GPS.

Or as I said earlier, you could buy a 2nd Q :D.

I really like that kenwood...

For another $1,800 you can get the kenwood touch screen nav...

$3,500 total or so.. Not bad when you think all the features you get compared to factory.. Touchscreen is real nice.. satradio/mp3 it's all here

Does that kenwood fold down or hide or anything?? That thing screams steal me

When you put that $3500 total into perspective however, a carputer of equal features w/ a higher res screen would run you 1/3 the cost of that unit :D . There's so many other things you can do with carputers as well... great lil machines they are.

The word carputer is really general. They are really customizable.

Miniman is right though. That is way to expensive, not to have complete flexbility. You can do anything with a computer, while the kenwood has some flexibility, it's still 99% less then a carputer.

Jesda,

You want to pick between LCD screens. there are two main competitors. You want to pick location, machine specs, location, etc..

I don't know if there are people who will put ones together, I'm sure there probably are.. You can always find somene to take your money in America..

I really like the idea of an LCD taking up the entire double din space. I am tempted to do something like this..

Kenwood doesn't fold down/hide away that I know of :( or can see on their website. It does offer "In Reverse" display if you have a camera mounted for backing up .

AZ brings up a good point here's a thread in the Car Audio Forum by a guy who's gonna build his own carputer, he's a a computer science / engineering major, according to him.

Someone FLEX their computer skills and get a package together :D.

I have the pc skillz but not the audio skillz. I would be glad to get the parts and do anything else I can.. I would need help with the best audio equipment and custom fabrication stuff.

To support a system like this you would "simply" have the PC (MP3 may be your only audio??) have some sort of RCA's which would then got to your amps. I said that thinking anyone who would go through ALL that effort would also switch over to a completely new speaker/amp system.

It may be possible to use a PC with some sort of FM tuner, but I think more would rather us XM or Sirus.

My suggestion would be to talk this guy (thread above) and see what he may able to offer. If he (or anyone) provided a double DIN mount unit, it wouldn't/shouldn't be as hard as you'd think. Now re-wiring the entire car for new speakers/amps would be a big under taking.

Here's what I want. For a couple of years now I've said that if anyone comes out with a stock-looking NAV/Radio/CD LCD deck I'll get one. I don't want motorized displays sticking 6" out in front of a single-din deck, dancing dolphins, etc - but this I gotta have! Does anyone have a hook-up for a good deal? My local shop wants $3K, but they're going on eBay for about $2K. Unfortunately the Eclipse web site sucks, so I can't get much information about connections, dimensions, etc - but I think it'll work.

When you get to that level, stock anything doesn't matter anymore.

I spent 20 minutes yesterday trying to get to something more than that one page on the Eclipse website :(.

Kenwood makes a nearly identical 2 din unit, like this eclipse..

The double din screens look very OEM, I would definetely never put one of those single din screens.. tacky looking.

No doubt. I assume it'll control an Eclipse CD Changer though? Too bad it can't integrate with my NEO MP3 player... I'd be all about having that text display on the screen instead of it's own controller.

Is it too much to ask for a double DIN touch screen with GPS nav for under $1000 :D, uh yea it is :(.

I'll just have to wait the couple of years until I get an FX or M45.

And you still won't get touchscreen with the fx or M.

Infiniti needs to go the acura route, with touchscreen.. You should be able to use the voice recgonizer to input addresses and stuff.. I want to be able to put in directions on the nav, while driving..
