I've thought about doing the nav hack but hesitant because I've seen a couple people say there is a delay afterwards. This doesn't make much sense to me because gps updates regardless of speed or motion, so I'm wondering if this was only subjective. Can others who have done this provide feedback of updates and rerouting speed/frequency with the navigation after the hack and at what speed are you traveling do you start to notice it please.

I did the hack about 1 1/2 years ago and my results seemed to be the same as most other members. My navigation works exactly the same as it did before the hack when my switch was NOT flipped to the hacked position, no delays or anything due to the install. Where you experience the delays are when you are driving and you flip the switch to enter a destination etc and then you flip back to factory for it to guide you. Its as if you paused the map and when you put in your address and flip back the map will still show you at the point that you flipped the switch, and most likely you will be miles away by then. Some members have said that the map wont catch up with your actual position until you stop or atleast slow down to under 5-10 mph, others say it takes anywhere from 5-30 mins depending on how fast and long you are driving. For me it seems to take 3-5 mins to actually catch up so its kinda annoying bc you would have to almost stop in order to be current, which you might as well just stop and enter your stuff then. I still think its worth doing the hack bc my passenger could watch something if they wanted while driving, and often times when i use the hack to put in a POI or address I will hit at stop light or something that slows me down enough for it to catch up. Sorry for the long response, just wanted to give you the most info I could about it. Let me know if you have questions about the hack. I also put my nav. hack switch where my cig lighter is so it lookes really custom and i didnt have to drill any holes. It lights up around my switch and is hidden under when it needs to be.

my experience is just like FNAWSM's--except I put my switch in the arm rest console between the seats.
it's also nice to be able to adjust menu items that are grayed out when the car is in motion if you want to or at least have your passenger adjust them while you're driving.

I see two people said they have no delays, I would love to hear your experience, or even if your hack is different in some way that allows no delays. What I don’t understand is why there is even a delay. GPS is GPS, if there is repositioning of the object/car, the GPS should reconcile that immediately and update, so why does it take time to reflect on the screen? I'm surprised of a flaw like that. If this delay is the norm I'll have to reconsider and reevaluate my need for this hack, b/c it makes no sense when on the move to wait 3+ min for gps to reposition itself, I might as well stop or get lost.

The trick I've figured out to not get the delay is once the location is in and has the start highlighted flip it back to the normal mode before starting the navigation.

If you don't hit the switch the GPS works normal with no delay.

You only get the delay when looking at a movie and than going back to the GPS. It's really not a big deal. You just have to let it catch up.

Mex might have solved the problem with his answer. Ill have to try that next time I use the nav on the go. Thanks for the tip.

I haven't noticed any delay in re-acquiring GPS signal.

I do not have delay either. I did my nav hack about a month after I got the car 3 years ago

I think what you have heard is that some people dont use the right DVD and burn the disk properly so it has a delay reading it and caching the information. As long as you use the right disk to burn (if you chose an illegal way or getting your disk, best to get the latest version legally) and burn it at something like 2x speed then it works fine.

But can you even do the nav hack? You have a 2008, I was under the impression 08 and 09 went to hard drive based navigation and was different. Thus no plug to splice into in the spot that the directions give.

With EniGmA1987 last post I just realised that everyone reporting delays in updating is driving 06 w/ dvd gps. From that can I assume that this issue is limited to the dvd gps?

So I went ahead and did it. I havent really noticed any lag once the hack is deactivated. It does seem that I have to be at a stop, or going pretty slow for the nav to update IF I press the start navigate button before I switch it back. This is only from a 15min test. After some more driving this week I'll update.

Edit:
Seems to work flawlessly once switched back. Catches up pretty quickly.
