I think I made a post in a previous thread that a monkey could do the hack in 30 minutes....lol Maybe if he just twisted the wires together. I hate soldering wires! I now remember why I don't do electrical work or stereo installs anymore

Don't ask me how long it took

Does your navi stop tracking when you switch to DVD mode?

No, it still works actually. I thought it wouldn't, but it does.

I have the 7.4 Nav dvd if that makes a difference.

So, how would you rate the difficulty of this job? Oil change as a 2 (Air filter change as 1 I suppose) and Replace engine / transmission as a 10.

Also, when did you started the job and when did you finished?

Actually it can be super easy or really difficult depending on how stealthy you want to be.

I went with a level 4 stealth factor from the late 80's and would rate it at a 2.9

Can you help a brother out in doing the NAV bypass. I've read the G35 Tech Page on it and a guy sells the instructions for $40 on EBay. Is it the same set up as the G35 Nav bypass? Thanks for any help you can give.

If you have an M35 why not search the M section for the nav hack?

General question: will the nav hack void an extended warranty?

Thanks for the link. It doesn't look that hard. Just need a good place for the switch on a Prem Package setup. I'll get started this afternoon.

Apprecitate the help, buddy. With the amount of time spent nerding up my post you could have said yes/no. Nevertheless, I searched and found. voila. Still skeptical though. Hard to believe you can bypass some factory setting, have your Nav screen crap out, and Infiniti replace it under warranty.

No problem, give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day - get used to it with car forums.

Oh, and If you wanted a direct yes or no answer from some "guy" on the internet about warranty then I feel sorry for you "buddy" because a warranty claim is not a simple yes or no answer.

Think positive and positive things will happen. - the positive in this situation is that you learned to search and think for yourself, good job! Or you could be mad at me - either way you still figured it out right?

Don't let Ken in AZ bug you, he's not that helpful to anybody. This forum is for people to help and discuss issues with others, not give a smart a** remarks to everyones posts. Now on to the NAV Hack. I just completed the mod last night and it works as advertised. I didn't use the CAT 5 cable or solder that mod suggests because it's simple wiring. I used 20 gauge wire with raychem splices at the harness and quick disconnects at the switch. I got some DPDT (double pole/double throw) ON/ON Rocker switches off EBay. They look like most of the switches in the car, and I plan to mount it in the glove box next to the NAV Reader. There is space, front and rear to install it. I have a Prem. M35X so I dont have the wallet holder area to mount the toggle. I'm currently using a ON/OFF/ON temp. switch until the EBAy one shows up. It works just the same, if you can't find a ON/ON switch. These are the mod. variations that I found that work. I hope this post HELPS everyone that reads it, that is MY intention on this site.

lol - I'm not that helpful? How about you take your 7 posts and spend a little time reading some of mine. I've probably helped more people on this forum than posts you've read

Hey you guys, let's face it, the truth. I'm probably the most helpful, brave, clean, cheerful, thrifty and reverent of all on this list. My wife says so and she's smarter than me..!

Did you do anything different that your navi tracking still works? You just followed the directions step by step for it!

The Nav system takes about 10 seconds to update after switching back to "normal" mode. I also noticed that I had to be moving for it to "find itself", when I was sitting idle it would not relocate.

Yup, I just followed the directions to a "T" if you will. I still have my old nav dvd so maybe I'll try and pop it in and see if that makes a difference. I'll report back tomorrow when I drive into work.

Wierd NAV stuff this morning...

Get in the car and drive about 10 miles - NAV is working perfectly. I forgot the old Nav dvd to try it out so I figured that I'd hit the switch to watch a dvd. Well it was already flipped in the dvd watching mode.

So I then flipped it back to the "stock" setting and it continued to work. Then but maybe 30seconds later I flipped back to dvd mode and it quit working. I was dumbfounded because it had been working all morning till then.

I then flipped it back to stock while driving and it found itself in less than 10seconds. I flipped it off again and waited about 5 miles to see it it would start working again but it never did, it knew what direction it was pointing though. I left it that way till exiting the freeway and came to a stop at the light, withing 5 seconds it found itself without me having to switch it back to stock, but once I started moving again it stopped tracking again till I flipped the switch back to stock.

So, I guess it works when it wants to, and other times it doesn't. Probably a whole list of things that Nav system is doing to figure out where it is.
