New 2010 QX56 Owner. Let me start by saying overall I love the truck.

However, Im frustrated with all of the various screens which are disabled while driving including navigation destination input, dialing of cell phone, address book, music box search, etc. Seems absolutely ridiculous that I need to stop and park the vehicle to access these input screens.

Ive seen the sticky on watching nav on the front screen while driving and the module that "Shane at Tintmasters" sells. I have no desire to watch video on the front screen, but would like to access all of the disabled input screens.

My question for the group...

Will this e-brake and speed sensor bypass hack allow access to all of the input screens as listed above? Will the e-brake and speed sensor leave my dash "brake" light on all of the time or will it not ever light? Will I have to flip the bypass switch each time I want to access the locked screens? How easy is shane's modification as Im not thrilled with the idea of tearing out the dash on my new $$$ truck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to NICOclub! Glad to have you as a new member of the Armada/QX56 Forum!

The disabled screen is due to safety reason. HOWEVER, I personally have completed the same mod Shane did on my own '08 Armada (same as your vehicle). I used the exact same components that he did and I could not be happier with my mod. Yes, you will then be able to watch DVD's on the front screen, and USE ALL NAV FUNCTIONS AT ANYTIME!!!!!

Here is the thing, I also did this mod on my '09 Murano, and instead of ordering a $50 relay pack, you can use a Double Pole, Double Throw Switch (DPDT Switch). Besides this switch only costing about $5 from Radio Shack, you DO NOT need to run a 12volt power to the switch, and that is an especially nice thing because in the QX56 the 12 volt power is not readily available in the front dash like it is in the Armada.

Digest the info here, hit me up with any question, I would be glad to help!

I just purchased an 09 QX56 and am very frustrated by this as well. I came from an 07 Acura TL that allowed you to control the entire car while in motion as well as by voice.

That leads me to my two followup questions:

1) Does anyone know how to have the voice recgonition card in our systems reprogrammed by Clarion to the Canadian software? The Canadian QX56s allow the driver to have voice control over the navigation, audio, climate, and video of the vehicle in a much more detail manor than the US version. Essentially they can completely control the car while it is in motion and not even need the manual override.

2) Is there any mod that can be done that is more plug and play to allow use of the menus while the vehicle is in motion? I do not want to cut wires on the car since it is only a month old and would void the warranty on some of the electronics.

Thanks!

1) Not sure at all on that one, never heard of it being done, again, you could check with a dealer on that one, I am sure they will tell you it is not possible, but let us know if you here otherwise.

2) There is only really one way you could do this mod without cutting the 2 necessary wires. That would be to purchase two connectors that connect to the existing wire packs at the back of the stereo, than wire them up properly and install your DPDT switch in the two wires. Does that make sense at all, it would really be a pain in the keester just for two wires. It is such a minor modification, and any Nissan technician would know that this mod (when done correctly) would never cause any problems.

I'm glad I read this. I'm supposed to pick up my QX56 (my first Infiniti) this Friday. I was told by the salesman that all controls do work while driving... I forgot to try it. I currently have an MDX which does allow you to use all buttons while driving.

I am going to have a guy set up the remote start system when I buy it. The salesman said the guy that does the remote start is not internal...that they bring in an outside "Mod-er". Should I just ask this guy to also make this mod so I can use the buttons at ANY time? I guess this also makes it so you can watch movies on the front screen while driving...a side perk ;-)

Thoughts?

I have the remote start and am not happy with it. After you use the remote start you can no longer use the keyless ignition swith, it will not turn. You must shut off and restart the truck. As soon as you touch the brake pedal the truck shuts off. I had mine installed by the dealer. They said with the keyless ignition this is the only way to have remote start.

Well, I know you will be very shocked to know the salesman gave you information that is not true. You will NOT be able to use all functions while the vehicle is in motion. The mod to override this and allow video to play on the front Nav screen is a very easy mod to complete, and I am sure this person would know how to complete the mod.

Awe man, it is a pain in the butt getting the DVD feed to play on the Nav screen on the '04-'07 models. You have to tap into the back of the DVD Nav rom drive after purchasing a switch unit (TVandNav2Go). I think I remember replying to a post of yours in the past.

Hi Im new here also and trying to do the same things you are all doing. I want to be able to use the Nav while driving and maybe in the future have a dvd hooked to the screen. Can you send me links, how to's etc on accomplishing this. You mentioned that you can use a switch instead of buying a kit. Can you elaborate on this more or provide a schematic. Thanks[QUOTE=Timmbo]

Welcome to NICOclub. What vehicle and year are you looking to complete this mod on?

Woops, its a 2006 Murano.

Does The switch only lets the GPS work while driving? I Would also like to be able to add a DVD player for movies. I have read that i need to convert the signal or buy an expensive adapter.

Thanks for the info.

Honestly, I have no idea how to do this on an '06 Murano. It would involve installing a DVD player, and finding the wires that feed video to your Nav screen and tapping into that. You would also have to send Audio to your stereo system. Sorry to say, but very complicated.

Which wires have you connected to the switch? Your ground must not be properly connected.

Good luck and enjoy!
