Friends car will not start
It will crank, but not run.
Tested it by spraying starter fluid into the intake. It would run untill the fluid ran out.
Checked the fuel pump. It was dead.
Took it out, hit it with a hammer a few times and it started to work.
Reinstalled it and got good fuel pressure.
Still crank, but not run.
Checked for injector pulse. Nothing.
Noticed the "Red" NATS light on top of the dash on all the time.
Checked for code. P1610...Key not recognized.
Tried the only other key. Samething.
Disconnected the battery overnight and tried again. Samething.
I'm thinking the NATS is locked.
Is there a way to unlock it WITHOUT taking to a dealer????
Can a locksmith or repair shop do it???
Is there a way to by-pass the NATS????

Welcome to NICO!

Pretty sure the only way to deal with the NATS is with a CONSULT II at a Nissan dealer. I will wait and see if anyone else has a different method or experience, but I'm leaning toward the dealer visit being inevitable in your case.

Good luck!

Found the problem.
Someone had installed an aftermarket alarm. It probably wasn't working because the power plug was off.
I took everything out, repaired the wires, reconnected the battery, and the NATS light was off.
I cycled the key and got injector pulse.
Hooked up the fuel pump. Plugged in the injector. It started right up.
I wish he told me there was an aftermarket alarm in the car. Would have saved me lots of time.
All is good now. Waiting for the new fuel pump to come in.
