i was planning on letting my stock fuel pump run to drain the old nasty gas but when i turned the key on it wouldnt kick on and wouldnt run in the starting posision either. the wire for the clutch switch has not been run yet and it was automatic before , i just thought this meant the starter wouldnt crank. but anyways the question is do i have to run the switch for the clutch pedal before my fuel pump will run? this is an 89 coupe.

I'm not sure if this would work... When you turn on the car I think it only prims the fuel system... It does not just sit there running.

when you turn the key to the ON position, the pump will only turn on for a second or to to, like Red said, prime the system. If you want to clear out any significant amount of fuel with the pump, you'd have to turn the key on and off and ket it drain a little at a time.

I dont reccomend doing that though, especially if you have any significant amount of fuel in the tank... you're still running all that old crappy fuel through the lines that you plan to use for your KA-T. Instead, pop the fuel pump out, and siphon as much as you can out though that hole.
