On one of the weekend shows they described the mandated 24 quart dry oil sump, massive electric preheater that kept the oil at 300F [to crank and run] and how they gained 25 HP by setting the rings/bearings so loose that they burned 1 quart or more per hundred miles.

Kind of reminded me of the tricks Nissan has/had done with the newer engines [increased oil consumption] and how worn old Q engines gain significant power and a little blue smoke [before they eventually fail].

Owners are sure complaining about burning 1 quart per 1000 miles and frequent refills [top offs] of the 4/6 quart wet sump.

NASCAR run at 160MPH and up for extended period of time. Engine RPMs reach 10K. One would assume at that kind of engine speed there will be some blow by even with the tightest clearences. My "HO st1300 uses a bit oil beause I constantly run above 5-6K RPM.Regardless, it was interesting info about preheaters and such!Cheers!
