I donno what it is, but I just LOVE NASCAR hood pins. Do you guys think it'd be tacky to put em on an S14? It's not exactly a muscle, car, I know-- but is it really that offensive?? You think they would look good? Watcha guys think?

if they are functional, thats cool, if your just putting them on for looks...i think that kinda cheesy..mind as well make them functional if you like them...not that hard, and it will help your hood from flying off when you start getting fast ; )

no no of course they'd be functional. man thatd be pretty lame if I just superglued em on or something hahahaha wow... or how about hood pin stickers or something! that'd be IDEAL!

LOL but no... as functional pins that actually did something... I mean its cool cause it's functional, but really its not NECESSARY so its still a style thing....

If you're gonna go with a fiberglass hood for weight reduction, ditch the hinges and go with 4 pins to be "for real".

Also, it's a security thing - the old racers put Masterlocks on each pin to keep thieves (and nosy competitors) out. You probably don't want locks flopping around on your clean 240...

I've wanted to add hood pins to my car. When I get going over 70mph... the hood starts bouncing up and down a little. I'm sure this has to do with my cold air duct that I rigged for the intake, but it gets really annoying and I'm always affraid the hood is going to fly off some day. I think I might do it.... but I'm also affraid of drilling holes through my car... I dunno just feels wrong.

They only work with fiberglass/carbon fiber hoods.

What?

Dude, hood pins existed before fiberglass and CF were even INVENTED. See my prior post for clarification.

If you are going for style points, dont do the hood pins. They destroy the crisp clean lines the 240 is famous for. If you are going to put hood pins in then go for a 6 foot wing and 14 thousand stickers. Before its done though please remove any nissan or 240 SX marks and replace them with honda logos. This way when you look like a ricer wanna be, you dont bring down the 240 name to the untrained eye.

Yes you are correct about one thing, Hood pins will work with any type of hood. They do have the locking clips that require a small key to prevent honest people from opening your hood. Any kid with a pair of plyers can pop the lock so this becomes a concern. OK OK I will get off my soap box.

NASCAR hood pins = RICE = tacky. I'm sure you can mount them on any type of hood, but you have to careful about the materials. If the metals are dissimilar, (like aluminum pins/bases with a steel hood, you'll need a barrier between them (like mylar tape) to prevent electrolysis (rot). Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber hood - not an issue. The big question is why you'd want to ruin such a clean shape.

Funny... coming from Bubba.

I couldn't help myself, I hate NASCAR, I like to call it TL for Turn Left. Yeah, that was corny.

Now I'm the butt of the jokes, woohoo!

I'll be putting in a carbon fiber hood, and I'll have to use hood pins for it, I'll be using sparco, I like their stuff...

anyways, functional hood pins are cool, but only on aftermakret lighterweight hoods...not stockers.
