My fiancees car (2004 G35x) is making a whurrring sound coming from what sounds like the front right of the vehicle.

Everything drives perfectly fine, no wheel wobble, no vibrations at speeds above 60mph.

But there is that whurrrring sound. It is a constant sound whether I am braking, coasting, or accelerating. It gets louder with speed and never goes away. It is first noticeable to the ear around 25mph.

I just pulled off the front right tire to make sure the caliper wasn't sticking but this was not the problem. Next on my list is the wheel bearing but I was hoping to get some more input before tackling this.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would look into the brake pads. Once the little squeal mechanism starts making contact with the rotor, you can hear it rubbing all of the time. I was worried that my wheel bearing was going out on the I30 until I pulled the brake and found very uneven pad wear. Insides were <15% outsides has over 25%.

All the pads were just replaced about 5k miles ago when all 4 rotors were replaced. Also, I took a look at the pads just to double check.

But from my experience, the sound is more of a dull sound vs the squeal indicator sound.

Ah, I hate diagnosing these kind of problems.

If that sound isn't stopping the faster you go I would venture to say that you have a wheel bearing problem...

^^^ Agree. It sounds like wheel bearing needs replacement.

Now if this is a wheel bearing, is there anyway to check it prior to pulling the entire thing apart. I know about wobbling the wheel from 12-6 but I am not that keen on the feeling part of it.

Anyone else have any experience with changing the wheel bearing on the G.

If you lift your car and rotate the tire you might hear/feel it. There was a member with similar issue not long ago. Can't recall who. Sorry.

I have the same car, same year. Same problem. I am betting it's a wheel bearing. I am taking it in soon to have it done. Not that expensive seeing you can get the hub and bearing kit for around 190 bucks.

Well if you find out what this is, please give me a heads up, that would be greatly appreciated.

will do. I might wait a bit though, seeing I just blew all my cash on Christmas. The sound has been going on for about a month now, and has not gotten any louder.

Hey Zozo, guys, I too have recently had to replace my front driver side wheel bearing assembly.

It cost around $200 for the part (Canadian) and I had it installed when I upgraded my rotors and pads to slotted, so I can't accurately quote the install.

From my understanding, if I didn't know a mechanic to preform the work, I would have just tackled it myself.

I think if it's a wheel bearing you may notice it come and go during turns, as the force/pressure while cornering will be sent from one tire to the next and vice-versa, depending on which side is in need of repair.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

yep...typical g35 problem..don't waste anymore time wondering what the noise is,it is a wheel hub/bearing assy. Make sure when you go to buy it that you tell them it is indeed an x model, the hub/bearings look the same, but they are different on the x model....I've changed plenty of them..it is becoming more and more common on G35 with some miles on them...hopr this helps

Is this the part I should be buying. The entire hub instead of just the bearing. Cause with my old acura, i just pressed in a new wheel bearing.

Yes you will need the whole Hub assembly. I think the price looks good too.

Mine got really loud, I said that's it... paid $200 from Infiniti.

hey pits...the ad says all 03-07 G35, but you need to make sure you tell them that it is an X model car because the 2wd carries a different hub and bearing assy. than an AWD does..just don't want you to order the wrong part for your fiancees car. You gotta keep the ladies happy if you no what I mean.hope this helps you out..

Also, maybe for once it would be nice if the woman was trying to keep me happy by working on my car. Perhaps, I should get her out into the driveway come summertime with a bikini on washing my car while i kick back and drink a few brews.

And Nicole, if you're in this forum or for some reason are checking this thread. I'm sorry, and dinner will be ready in 15 minutes.

If you going to do that you have to get the camera ready. We need details and pictures. Maybe video. LOL We love clean cars.
