Ok, I am in the process of sorting out and redoing the engine harness. The EFI harness I have all figured out, but the lower harness that goes to the starter, transmission, etc is what I am having difficulty with. I layed out the harness and idicated exactly what I am looking at in the hopes that some of you can decipher some of them. I have the FSM but it didn't seem to make sense in a couple areas. Besides, I like being spoon-fed information Anyway, the ones with a ? mark below are the ones I need help identifying (obviously)...

Link to the LARGE picture... http://www.escic.com/cr95gst/harness.jpg

1 -- Goes to a sensor on the tranny2 -- Alternator3 -- Oil pressure switch4 -- Goes to a sensor on the tranny5 -- knock sensor6 -- ????7 -- ????8 -- ????9 -- ????10 -- ABS sensor11 -- goes to injector resistor pack12 -- A/C plug13 -- ????14 -- Knock sensor wiring going back to the main harness

Thank you everyone!!!!

1. May be VSS, reverse. Rear plug on trans2. Alternator3. Oil Pressure4. Give me wire colors. May be many things, neutral switch on trans perhaps.5. Det.6. Appears to be the starter wire, shoule be one B/W wire.7. 8. Looks to be E203, connects to E18. Two wires, one W, one B. Connects to alt fuse in fusebox, other wire is the body ground.9. May be E204, has two wires, W and W/B. Plugs to E19.10. Can't tell at all.11.12. Colors13. Boost Pressure Solenoid14. Janky wiring job by previous owner. Inspect!

Get back to us on the wire colors, it's been a while since I unwrapped and shortened my harness. Absorb FSM sections "EF & EC" and especially "EL." Double-check what I posted, can't be sure without close-ups and/or wire colors. May as well unwrap it and take a good look at the wiring while you've got it laid out.

4. Yellow w/black stripe and Yellow w/blue stripe6. Yes, one black wire w/white stripe12. A single wire color is blue

Closeup of plug 7 -- http://www.escic.com/cr95gst/plug7.jpgSeveral colors...see pic

Closeup of plug 9 -- http://www.escic.com/cr95gst/plug9.jpgTwo wires, one black w/yellow stripe and solid white

Closeup of plug 10 -- http://www.escic.com/cr95gst/plug10.jpg two wires...one white, one black

I dunno what the deal is with those two wires connecting the harness...I'll have to unwrap it and see where they go. I am going to label everything for when I connect it all.

4: Y/B, Y/L is for the VSS on the trans6: Starter wire7: Ahh, yes, I've dubbed it the mystery plug . I had to trace them back and see where they all went, someone may know. There was one similar to that plug in color, just a whole lot smaller in size that I had to trace as well.9: Should be E204. Did the harness come from an auto car? The autos had a W and B/Y, with the manuals having W and B/W for that connector. I'm also looking at the Euro FSM, so there could be some changes there. Just hit up the FSM 10: I'm stumped.

14 Looks to be knock sensor wiring back into the main harness.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Yep, I unwrapped that part of the harness and it goes to the knock sensor. I wonder why he has two wires coming out of that one? Well, at least I know where it's coming from now. I am going to use all this info to make a Visual FAQ for the harness plugs and the wiring. I am going to work on the rest this afternoon.

Wow.... I just discovered this gnarly job on the plugs.

I HATE butt splices! Time to bust out the soldering iron and redo all those connections. Just verifying, all those extra wires that are bound up in elec tape coming out of plug are not necessary, correct?

Please tell me what the gray and white on #14 splice into on the main harness. THat would solve so many of my issues and I will promise you my first born.

Okay, if you look at the pic, they ran the wires up the main harness into where the plugs behind the battery go. There is a big thick gray shielded wire and the other looks to be a ground.

In case anyone hasn't noticed in my threads, I am a picture WHORE and take pics of everything... It's a lot easier to solve problems with a visualization!

goddamnit lost my post I was typing.anyways, thats not as badly ****ed up as mine was, it had splices w/ just wires twisted together and taped. at least you get butt splices..

I say unwrap everything and check it all out (but in sections so the harness doesn't explode)

this harness IS from an ABS equipped automatic, as it has the automatic dropping resistor (direclty above 9) and ABS sensor connector (10)

2-6 I agree and 8-9 not sure

1 is either reverse or neutral. if its neutral it is Green w/ Orange and Black

7 is possibly F10 judging from the # of yellow wires (I can never remember if F8 or F10 is the bigger one); altho if this has been partially rewired from LHD already it might be F9 (exists in LHD only)

10 is ABS sensor

11 may be injector dropping resistor, check for continuity to injectors or it should have Red (common) and White / Yellow / Green / Blue wires (injectors 1-4)

12 is probably AC compressor turn on, but it should be blue/green per euro FSM.. however I think mine might have been only blue.

... I hope my JDM 89 180SX FSM shows up soon, have accurate wiring diagrams (in japanese, but hey..)

Ok, so the #10 plug is for ABS. Well, my car has ABS now but I was under the impression that it was ran off a seperate circuit and controlled independently from the ECU. Also, yes, this is an automatic harness and ECU. I didn't think it would matter though. I just wouldn't have a rev limiter or top speed limiter. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I'd like to get everything figured out here way ahead of time rather than wondering why it won't start once it's all in the car.

heh

the ABS is a seperate system, but for the purposes of making life hell / simpler they run the left side connector through the EFI harness thats over there on RHD cars and vice versa (basically the side that the harness comes out on)

So you may need to look at the ABS circuit and either cut and splice around the harness or find what needs to match up, if its different.

It doesn't matter its an auto harness/ecu just means you have extra useless plugs.

Ahh ok great. I'll take a look at the harness when I yank the motor for the ABS issue. I am heading to the flea market today to pickup a ton of wire loom and heat shrink tubing. This is going to be my afternoon project today.

And Rico...you can keep your first born... I already have one of my own who is more than I can handle!
