Ok, so i went on vacation and got back sunday. i left last thursday so... the last time i drove was Wednesday, 6 days ago.

I turned the car on and jumped it and i heard a weird whirling noise... so i was like... Wtf.. i look under the car, and power steering fluid leak was there, ok.. its that leaking hose i need to replace, no big deal.

So it idles down and sounds normal, and then all of a sudden, i start hearing this abnormally louder than the injectors clicking.... Ok... wtf, as i would barely rev it , it was almost certain it was coming from the head, becuase it didnt have a deep sound to it at all, and was more high pitched like something in the valve train.

I just started up my car

My oil pressure was 55psiidle was around 900 ishoil was finePulled all the spark plugs, they're fine, just a bit black from running richand there wasnt an overabundance or really alot of oil in the crank case hoses.

Im going to take off my timing belt cover to see if it skipped a tooth, but wtf. It drove PERFECT before i left, and it didnt make the noise as soon as it started..... it only came after. Mind you this entire time of idling was about 5-6 minutes. I shut it off to be on the safe side...

Do you guys think it will go away if it warmed up more or.... should i investigate more into this?

::edit::

I took off the cam cover and CAS and...I checked the cam pulleys and they're lines up perfectly TDC with the crank pulley, so that rules out them slipping a tooth and the pistons hitting the valves.

Could be lifter noise since you said the car wasn't run for a bit. Does it click with the revs?

Welcome to my world Mine ran fine too until I took it apart and removed and reinstalled the lifters. I'm going to dig into it for the 6th time now to remove the lifters and bleed them. Plus hopefully replace the camshafts if I can get them in time. That is odd that it would start knocking after sitting for so long. I am going to check the caps to make sure they didn't come loose for some weird reason. Then if they're still torqued to spec, I'll pull the cams and lifters.

Who knows, maybe one of your lifters went bad on you?

before taking it all apart try running some light weight oil, maybe like 0w30, See if it helps to get the lifters pumped up...

I put the engine back together and threw the CAS back on and timed it to 16 degrees and then let it idle for awhile, it went down after the injector pulse changed from warming up, Re-timed it, and slowly started revvin it up and it slowly went away. It turned it all off and then put the coil pack back in and started it up and then nothing, i revved it to 4k from idle going up slowly for about 10 seconds. It drives fine and i cant hear it so i think she's ok. I boosted it to about 6k and it felt iffy, so ill just take it easy for a few days.

Will I find a procedure in my FSM for bleeding the lifters? Mine developed a light ticking in a single valve after I ran it hot for the first time. Since then it's developed into quite the clacking sound.

My valve train noise is absent when cold and gets louder as the engine warms up.

Do lifters just give out sometimes? Is there a usdm interface for the shims and lifters?

I have an r32 rb26dett.

Thanks

Sounds like maybe one of his lifters just needed an engine load to close back up after sitting for a while.

my car also has a whirling noise thats rpm related. sounds like its coming from the front... might be either the alternator drive wheel or water pump hub/pulley. *dunno* no ps connected atm, so its not ps.

RB26's do not have hydraulic lifters, hence no bleeding. You have solid lifters and shims. You would actually have to get a feeler gauge and check clearances...

whirling noise usually means worn bearing. Common culprits from the front of the motor would be alternator and water pump. I would take the belts and spin the pulleys. Check that it doesn't wobble, that it spins smoothly, and listen for any noise as you spin it by hand...
