I have seen references from time to time to a company that I think is in Colorado which refurbishes injectors. In my love-hate relationship with my Q I am thinking about looking for a set of fuel rails with injectors to have as spares. (I am at 130K miles on my'92 and have replaced all injectors once, between 90 and 110K miles. I expect more trouble because of ethanol).

Do refurbished injectors by this company have a service life similar to new ones or is it a waste of money? Also, I recall at the time that we replaced injectors that there are a number of different spray patterns. Is there one pattern that is preferable over another for plain old street and highway driving? Is there a problem if the spray patterns are mixed?

ThanksKen K

Deatschwerks is a sponsor in OK city.

Read Heath's thread about after market (later rail design) and TexasOil's posts about adapting later injectors.

Remember refurbishing just means cleaning with a solvent to remove varnish and of course some type of flow testing and measuring coil resistance.

Well, I have read some of Heath's posts and the one about the adapter kit from Deatsch caught my interest. It seems, however, that the adapter allowed the newer FIs to be used; at the time, the belief seemed to be that they were less prone to failure from ethanol than the 90-93, but that seems to no longer be the belief. Or am I wrong?

So Q45tech and others, what is the advice about replacement injectors for my year (1992)? Should I use OEM or is there an equal or better alternative?

ThanksKK

Yup, still an old part exposed to years of years of under-plenum heat stress, just cleaned up.....to me, considering the labor involved to R&R, seems like a bad gamble compared to just purchasing brand new injectors.

Seems to be later rails with aftermarket injectors, although it seems some later injector users are not experiencing the ethanol kill.

I have used ethanol laced fuel for the last 75,000 miles, so far no problems. MTBE laced fuel before that for the first 145,000 miles- I dont think my Q ha ever seen real 100% gasoline in its lifetime except for out of state trips!!! Baltimore/Washington area hasnt had real gasoline in well over a decade.

Well, must be gremlins what lives in California. Perhaps I will have better luck with this second set.

Replaced 4 [all drivers side] May 15 so far so good.............5.5 months.

It appears that the rash of sudden failures [within 1-2 months of E10 [ March 15] intro to ATL] has fallen off...............the injectors that don't fail soon seem to adjust to plastic stress and survive?

I have one [#6] that creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeped up to 19 ohms since May 15 but is holding steady for a month now.

But GA suffered from fuel shortages and bottom of barrel fuels for 4 weeks [until 10 days ago] so who knows what we got recently.
