Im really a corolla guy, so im still into na engines, but i was wondering if it will be any cheaper to go SR na than det? if not then i guess im going to have to convert to the turbo power.

Naturally aspirated SR20's are way cheaper than turbo ones, but will never make the same amount of power. Its all about personal prefrence. The naturally aspirated SR20 is a great platform to build on, surpases the ability of the naturally aspirated KA24 in my opinion.

i think matt said it all right there...the SR20det is a better built motor than the SR20de is...the DET is an AWESOME platform to build on...im not sure as to how many aftermarket parts are made for NA RWD SR20s but i do know the SR20det has one of the LARGEST aftermarket parts followings in japan PERIOD

You could always look into the N2 head made by Nismo. That head was built for racing purposes only and is a common part to see on many of the DET engines that were converted to DE operation. Good luck finding it here though, I've looked into it and couldn't find any dealers for that particular head. I'm not too familiar with the other details on the head since I've never personally seen one in person, only read about them briefly in some of the older back issues of Options. I'm also pretty sure that Toda Racing has an SR20DE running in GT300 races. They've got a pic of that engine on their website under racing engines.

Toda uses a 2.2 liter S15 SR20DET in GT300.

if I could make that Toda NA SR20DE then I'd probably switch over to the NA from the turbo engine just because less crap to fiddle with and less parts. I think the FWD engines are used by Tomei for RWD also because I've seen the pulsar engines used for the base of the Derive engines. Dunno about the NA US spec though...I'd assume there are alot of similarities between the DE's and if you carry over the emissions equipment over to the swapped NA version engine I'd assume you'd be able to get BAR approval. But those are assumptions and not fact so don't quote me on it but it seems plausible.

It totally depends on the State. For example, in CA, the motor must be from a california car, of the same or newer year, and have all emissions equipment on there. In PA, the motor can be from any year and from any place, as long as it is modified to have all emissions equipment found on the motor-swap recieving car AND is able to pass emissions testing (if the county you live in requires it). But in all states the motor has to be from the same manufacturer.

As for using a FWD SR20, the blocks are different and it would be really expensive to the point of making no sense to get it to fit into a 240sx.
