i am looking at buying a 1990-1996 300zx (most likely a 90) and am not sure what to do... i want to get a tt but dont have the money for one... i only have about 5000 or 5500 to spend so my choices are limited and the car would have atleast 100k miles on it... i somehow would like to wind up with a twin turbo... what would be the cheapest way to go??? swap or conversion? i would like it if the engine had low miles too so that makes it pretty difficult. maybe i should just go with a big single turbo which i have seen done before just not that often (a t67 or something). im not sure which way to go but i would like to wind up with a 300+ hp 300zx if possible.

This is covered almost daily. It is cheaper and from what I hear easier to swap the VG30DETT in. I am no Z expert but this is what I learn from every thread on this subject.

Use the search man, there has to be at least 20 of these threads

Also a straight up TT is the best way to go, followed by ordering a front clip and a conversion

Buying a N/A and doing a TT conversion will be more expensive than just buying a TT at the beginning. If you really want a TT, just save up for one and buy it from the start.

And the single turbo, if you are limited on funds, it will be almost impossible to do it.

this has been coverd alot.... ive even posted basically this same question.... use the search man!

but i agree completely with freakonaleash, just save your money and buy a tt, i thought it would be easier just to swapp a vg30dett into my na z, so a cheaped out and bought an na cuz i was on the same budget as you. i was meaning to do the swap last year and now its 07 and im further away fromt he swap then ever. over all its not really worth the time an effort.

how come no one ever mentions insurance? my AAA insurance estimate on a TT was 1400 per six months and i pay 1025 per six months on the TT Conversion i bought. a TT conversion is cheaper in the long run i think, but it's a lot of hassle unless you have done it a number of times i think. i've never done it.

but yeah if you have 5500 get a NA. in two years if you have money and want to convert it, awesome.

insurance depends greatly on the coverage, drivers and location, for me, the N/A is about the same as the TT, was a few bucks cheaper but not much, hell my n/a z31 is almost as much as the TT
