What is a good streetable comp ratio for my DOHC KA? Im going to be rebuilding it and i have heard that SOHC pistons increase the compression TOO much and that you could not run on just 91 octane youd have to get some type of race gas. I was thinking either 10.5-1 or maybe 10.7-1 Stock it is 9.2-1 so i want to do something that i can still use 91 octane with but still gain some power without having to retard the timing a ton.....Its hard to find Information on doing an N/A KA because everyones so KA-t happy now haha.

That is because the amount of power you get out of a KA-t is so much more than that of a NA KA. It has an overall better cost to power ratio than NA. As for your question I have no idea.

Id like to see a full write up on how to do a KA-T safely and have it be like it came stock that way. But obviously rebuild the internals.

Yeah ive seen the site many times idk if i want to attempt doin a turbo build though... Im not lookin for that much power I have enough as it is for now... So anyways back to the original Question... What compression ratio would be good for the street and allow me to still use pump gas 91 Octane? Do you know what the compression changes to when you use the SOHC pistons? I always hear mixed answers about the SOHC pistons..

You could do a minor T25 setup much like the one that came on the sr and use a tuned ecu. There are plenty of write ups on relaible setups on nico and ka-t forums.

From what i know it Depends on what sohc the pistons are coming from, early 89 sohc came with 9.1:1 cr, and newer ones used 8.6:1 cr.

This might helphttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=225510

I just scaned through kind of quickly but i think they are saying it comes out to 11.1:1 when using the newer production sohc pistons.

you could use the 90 sohc pistons without useing any kind of race fuel. I bet you could even use the stock timimg also if you switched to a colder set of plugs.

10.5-10.7:1 should be streetable from what I've seen. You'll need premium gas, and some tuning would go a long way. The early SOHC pistons need to be modified to not hit valves- there's more info out there on which model, how to cut, etc.

Agree with above, though I never heard, or seen anyone bend valves from using SOHC pistons. If you do go the SOHC piston route, you will need a Tune though, or your car will ping, even on 93.
