Nissanfreak12 makes a good point. The transmission runs off of information from the engine. The throttle position sensor tells the transmission the amount of load on the engine. If it is set too loose there will be play in the cable, and the transmission will shift prematurely thinking there is little or no load on the engine. If it is too tight, the transmission will never shift, or shift very high in the rpms, because it thinks that you are accelerating.
Another good thing to check is fluid level (always check trans fluid when engine is at running temp). If the fluid level is low it may not be feeding proper pressure to the valvebody, causing it not to shift properly, or not to shift AT ALL.
If you haven't already it may be a good idea to check codes. There are relatively few electronic componants on the Z32 transmission, but there are enough to catch major problems.
If the fluid level is correct, it may have a dirty transmission filter. I believe they are internal filters on the Z32 trans. If you pull the transmission pan off you should be able to see the filter. check to make sure it isnt plugged, and look around in the trans while you have the pan off. If you see sparkly trans fluid or chunks of metal or plastic, then you have a serious issue. If not, it may be something simple.
Good Luck!
