Does anyone shim or replace the stock oil pump spring for more pressure? Why does everyone rush out and put in a N1 pump? If you have a accurate gage and could post up some numbers at say idle and then at 3-4 thousand rpm--- I would like to see the differences in the two pumps in action. My pump is in spec and I would like to know of any benefit to shelling out $$$ for a N1

The last time my car ran it was 100psi at start up idle, onece it warmed up it would go down to about 30psi, and at 3000-4000 rpm it would go to 75psi and stay there till redline. I hate to say it but, search. There was a really good thread about this a while ago. The inside of the pumps are different.

its all about volume, not pressure

i prefer to use GREDDY/TOMEI or JUN pumps as they are a different gearset that is less prone to cracking when pushed hard.

I'm running the n1 oil pump with Mobile1 15w50 in a RB20. My stock pump started to slip after some highway pull so I did the crank collar and pump all at once. I'll never put another car together without an oil pressure gauge. Saved me a butt load of money this time around.

Yep-the Oil pressure is going right next to the wideband and the temp. gage.

URAS--much appreciated--that is what I was looking for

the hks/greddy/jun/tomei pumps are quite nice but for the price...well unless the car sees high revs constant the n1 is a good alternative.if i were to upgrade from the n1 to a japanese pump i would go for the nismo, biggest gearset of them all and damn near indestructible.1k price tag hurts to look at tho.

on my n1 pump i get 6bar at start up, 2 bar at idle when warm using 20w50 oil.then from 3k to redline its a solid 6 bar.oil pressure is key especialy on high rev motors but remember pressure != flow.

just because a pump can move more oil doesnt mean its better, the more oil it can move the faster the pan goes dry, so if you are dead set on a large upgraded pump be sure that you have added external drains/restrictors and if possible increaced capacity pan.

Thanks for the reply--I want to put the $ where it will do the most good. I am pretty sure that I have the cooling system in check and am going to hold off on the oil pump/oil modifications till I build the motor. I have been doing allot of research on motor oiling. I shimmed the stock pump and will compare the specs. to what people have posted and the research I have done/found on other web sites. I will post up what I find.
