They are SOOOO worth the $550!

First of all... the pipes are all coated to prevent rust and the canisters are all stainless steel. In otherwords... you'll NEVER have to replace your exhaust again. A custom setup with a cheap after-market muffler is going to fall apart within a few years.... potentially sooner here in New England. You know how they love to throw down that road salt!

Secondly, it is the straightest piping I've seen in any aftermarket exhaust for the s14. I'm not sure about the s13... but I believe it's even straighter for them. The whole point of the tips coming out staggered is to maintain the most direct route possible. There is one bend going under the axle that replaces 4 bends in the stock pipe.

So for my money... knowing I'll never have to worry about the thing rusting out from underneath my car... and knowing that it's about the best exhaust on the market makes it TOTALLY worth it.

You burnt the tips off?

What the hell are you hiding under the hood that could produce such dramatic results?

has anyone ever used two of the N1 duel muffers? so basically 4 pipes, 2 each side...just wondering if it gave a deeper sound...my buddy wants his rx7 to rumble rather then wine, and there's nothing out there besides exhausts with big 4-5" tips and he hates the look...

buy the Apex'i mufflers and then get it custom welded w/ the same gauge steel and the same kinda resonators...and i'm supposing he could replicate the performance....but if ur buddy wants a deep rumble perhaps he shouldnt have sided w/ mr. wankel when he was out buying his car

Yeah that's what i was thinkin he should do...i love the sound of the 20b, but i promised him the rumble...if i can't get it i gotta buy the car off him so he can buy a ws6...expensive, but not a bad way to loose a bet!

It is possible to have too much of a good thing. 4 exhaust tips would look kinda bad-a$$ if that's what you're into (I personally think it would look lame), but it's not at all practical on a 240sx or an N/A RX-7. You will LOSE performance (exhaust scavenger effect) with all the turbulance from the extra bends and over abundance of pipes envolved in such a hideous contortion.

With an N/A engine... there is no need for that much open air flow.

He doesn't really care about performance, at least not enough to put up with a sound for the sake of a few hp...he loves the idea of duel tips on either side and i think it could look sweet...for him its all about the rumble...and the 20b will be turbo'd soon!

Well...

assuming that the car in your sig is yours... I kinda figured it was turbo'd (the FMIC kinda gives that away), but I've just never heard of stainless exhaust tips burning off.

Haha... maybe you're running a little lean?

it is if its polished...the polish burns off exposing the bare metal...and stainless can be colored by heat, tho not near the extent or colorfulness of titanium.

IT definately can be colored, but its not like there is anything to be burnt besides the stainless itself

wanna bet? if you look at the tip of my muffler where it is burnt you can definitely see what would look like the finish being burnt off

it looks almost like the "plating" burned then chipped off

plating?? thats weird. It should be pure stainless steel right? I guess I could see it chipping a little bit.

The Apexi canisters and tips are stainless. It shouldn't be able to burn off the finish.... as there is no finish to burn off. But, it can flake the metal under extreme heat.

I was just picturing your entire tip burnt off down to the canister. That would have been a bit crazy... but a hell of a story to tell your friends! Not to mention rather funny looking.

yeah the metal is chipped, but i was just describing how it looked by using plating as an example

so i guess this means my exhaust is pretty hot

For which car?

We have the S13 and S14 exhaust already - Full stainless, mandrel-bent, all MIG-welded (much cleaner). Why in the world someone would buy a coated (aluminized) system such as Maine speaks of is beyond me - especially if you live somewhere where corrosion is a concern.

You could probably buy the BRM stainless for what they'd charge for their aluminized system.

A bit late but hey - here's a pic I took of the N1D beside the stock S14 exhaust. It's a great exhaust, but with all that piping it's 4.5 lbs heavier than the stock system. I'll just have to lose 5 lbs I guess...

Well...

The Apexi is coated, but not aluminized. It's some sort of "zincronium" powder coating that is rust proof.

Zinc plating is very similar...

Our aluminized systems use pretty much the same process.

Ah... I see

I'm confused... (sunday is my brain's day off)

Are you saying that it's bad to have a coated exhaust? Maybe I read something wrong... ?

He should check out RSR exhausts.

http://www.rs-r.com/exmag.htm

If he has an FC, he should get mazdatrix mufflers.
