N00b question about my current VLSD installation! Help!

Hello friends! I have a 5-bolt JDM VLSD installed on my S14 as I write this. One of the 5 bolt axles that was given to me to use on it is incorrect and will not fit, it is too long! I have a J30VLSD that does not work but has 6-bolt output shafts. I remember reading that I can swap the 6 bolt J30 shafts to the JDM 5 bolt one and use my original axles. I took off the driver side of each and noticed the J30 ones are a bit shorter than the 5 bolt ones. Is it okay to use them? Thanks for any help! Although its probably a stupid question! Thanks!
