Hey guys. I've had my Versa for about 4 months now. About 3-4 weeks ago I started noticing some squeeking here and there. WIthin the last week it's gotten worse, to where it's almost every day. My TPS came on, and I aired them up last night. It's still on. I know that's a known issue, but I jsut thought it was odd that my brakes started acting up at about the same time the TPS came on.

I have about 8k miles on the car (lots of highway miles) and it appears it needs to brakes already. I've owned a fair amount of cars in my time and that just seems rediculous to me. I wanted to come in here and see if you all had any insight before contacting the dealer first. I haven't seen any threads regarding this.

That's really premature for brakes.. Can't think of a system failure that would cause that type of failure.. Time to take it in.. With the brakes wearing that early I would argue for defective parts.. Argue warranty issue..

you could have dirt or some particles or somthin in the break pads, i had that in mine and it was a HORRIBLE squeel. what i did though was, i drove about 60mph and hit the breaks hard. not hard that they lock up but enough to come to a fast stop. after that no more squeeking all the stuff that was stuck in my pads were gone.

Thanks for the responses guys. I tried hitting the brakes harder that usual just to see, but nope. Fresno isn't the greatest for traffic, but like I said, never had this issue with any other car I've owned.

I figured I'd have to take it in to see what they say. I've had my fair share of running into service writers and tech's so we'll see how this goes. I just hate playing the "um, no that's not normal. It's a defect" game.

After I take her in I'll post up what happens, especially if it's a TSB or 'known' issue, so you all know.

Thanks again.

Mine has a similar squeal, only 11,000km on it (about 80% highway) so its going in to be checked out this week when its in for its oil change. From what I can tell its the front, and it seems to be from the driver side so hopefully nothing major. I expected to be a bit hard on the brakes due to where I live (the highway into town is about 3km long at decent slope, and unless you hit at at a non-busy time you are often forced to ride your brakes a good amount of the way down as its a single lane) but no where near this early.

Exactly. I ahve called the dealer yet, because it went away for a few days. But it started up again last night, so I'm calling today. It seems to be on the DS side on mine as well.

Well turns out that the issue was a small slab of mud that was on the brake, along with a pile of dust likely from the mud. They cleaned it all off and not a sound since from the brakes. The wear was about what they said is normal for the mileage I've put on it so far.

Have about 76,000 miles on my versa and as of last week the brakes still had another few months of wear left. Been through 3 sets of tires but brakes are good.

I just went over 60,000 KMs and i replaced my pads just a few weeks ago. Weird thing is the inner pads had about 25% left and the outsides a good 50%. Both inside pads were severely grooved and had to machine my rotors. Now i dont know if this is all normal for this car or what. I will say, I think i got a good life out of the pads no matter what they looked like.

What would cause the grooving and extra wear on both inside pads?
