hey i was just wondering how much power you can make a vg30e put out with a sum of lets say 2-3 k this is just for the future i kind of want a NA car just because of the reliability (turbo's are reliable but not like na...) either way thanks in advance my z isnt runing at the time and i'm trying to get some rust off her it's not bad but it's a lot of "surface rot" so i'm thinking of building a motor while the car is non-op

You're funny. You think an NA with 200hp is going to be as reliable as a turbo with 200hp? Not even close. It's been said many times before, but I'll say it again. For 2-3k, you want to just sell your NA and buy a turbo. The only difference between a turbo and an NA in the Z31 is the compression (because of the pistons) and the addition of the turbo. And the idle control stuff. Beyond that, the turbo and NA blocks, heads, cams, intake, etc are all exactly the same.

For $2-3k, you'll be lucky to see 180hp at the rear wheels. Different air filter, better exhaust, cams, port & polish might get you there, but it will be a stretch. In the mean time, the same $2-3k spent on a stock turbo will put you at 250-270 rwhp and be just as reliable.

If you're thinking of building a motor, build a turbo motor. Keep in mind, the farther from stock you go, the less reliable it will be. It's up to you to decide how much less reliable you want to go.

I know a guy that put 160whp to the wheels with intake, header, exhaust ,cam gears and ecu so that would about depleate your budget or you could spend a couple more grans and get a turbo car or just turbo your own ar with some wrecked donor

My car's like yours, I didn't get to do anything on it yet. I wouldn't bother with the VG engine. Swap in a vh45de from a q45. It mounts the same way but you'll have to get a new oil pan. it's a bolt on to the z32 auto transmission, but with an adapter plate you could make it mount to a 5-speed. I plan on doing this. My only issue with that is that the q45 only came with an auto, so I don't know what you could do about a 5-speed. The engines $400-$900, the transmission's around $400. or you could go the route of the z33, but I don't know how you'd mount that the the engine.
