For the past few days in this intolerable New England weather, my KA24DE is making a horrible wrenching grinding noise when the motor is cold. After a few minutes of driving, a belt starts squealing and I smell burning rubber. By the time I pull over and pop the hood, all of the sounds go away. I thought it was my P/S pump seizing but replaced it with no difference. Could it be the tensioner pulley on the A/C belt? There is no difference with the A/C clutch engaged. There was always a clanking sound at about 2100 RPM which I thought was the timing chain, but this goes away when the grinding sound goes away. Anyone have this before?

Anybody have any suggestions on how to narrow down what might be wrong? Thanks in advance!

you have to hear it happening while you are looking at the engine with the hood up
