Just got done replacing the last of the hoses under the hood of my 1990 Q. When I got to the canister near the power steering pump I wondered where all those hoses go and what they do. I'm especially curious about the big fat one at the bottom and the other medium sized one, both of which feed into the frame rails and head aft.

Is it the carbon cannister for the fuel tank?

The carbon canister is on the Drivers side & the P/S pump is on the passenger side.

Can you tell us what they hook up to?

It is the carbon canister on the driver's side by the power steering pump. No active suspension. Chally, our driver's side would be opposite of your's. Lines appear to be vacuum from plenum, except the two previously mentioned that lead to the frame rails then aft.

You are correct!

I was lazy & looked up the workshop manual, & on page ST-5, the drawing shows the P/S pump & Reservoir on the Passengers side. :oface

Gasoline fumes [from tank [big hose] and stored in plastic canister] are purged into the engine at low load warm cruise rpm [1500-2500] when the O2 are closed loop and can compensate for the extra fuel. Keeping the gasoline tank at just the right positive pressure is important to not over load the activated charcoal in canister............the fuel vapor [lighter gasoline fractions] is quite different than gasoline as a whole.
