Hi guys - this comes from the same bundle of wires as the TPS connector but I can't see anything nearby that it hooks up to. Any ideas where it came from?

Hard to tell form the pick, the O2 sensor connector is 3 wire and should be further back and lower although someone could have simply routed the wire incorrectly, check and see if the O2 sensor is plugged in. Automatic equipped cars had an extra connector at the TB for the kickdown to the trans, could also be a harness form an automatic car. It appears you have a battery on the left hand side meaning you have a RHD model?

It is an auto and it is RHD. I'll check if the O2 sensor is plugged in, thankyou.

the tps in it is for a manual trans car. you need the auto trans one with the 2 connectors.

...well damn!

Would that potentially be preventing the car from maintaining idle?

i dont think it would affect idle. what could is it being out of adjustment. as evildky said its for the kickdown on the trans. i think thats all its for but im not entirely sure
