Hi, I'm looking for information on what exactly the drain plug pictured here is for?

The cvt drain plug is just out of frame and is black, and the oil pan is on the other side of the exhaust pipe.

Its important to note that I undid this plug when I was doing the first oil change after I purchased this car about 50k miles ago, and drained what looked like engine oil from it. I am concerned this may be cvt fluid, but I haven't noticed any ill effects in the 50,000 miles since I drained it.

Anyone know what this is for?

Hard to tell from the picture. Does your Rogue have AWD? If it does, you might have drained the transfer case.

Yeah it's a 2016 rogue sv awd, and it seems like I would have noticed in 50k miles if the transfer case was dry but I'm no expert

Pretty cool if that was the transfer case drain bolt.

First generation owners had to deal with a hex bit to remove the drain plug.

On top of being a contortionist to remove the fill plug with the same hex bit.

Major pain in the a $$!

It looks like the CVT fluid overflow plug (refer to FSM TM-189)
