Hello, I hope someone here can help me identify what exactly this stuff I found in the bottom of the pan on my 93 J30 is?

My mechanic has never seen anything it, it's not magnetic, has a consistency similar to wet paper towel, and each of the little bits was fairly uniform in shape and size? My first thought was pieces of a filter but my tranny uses a screen so I'm not sure how filter paper would get there?

Here are some pics I snapped:

Anyone have any idea what that could be?

If its not brass it would be flakes off a clutch, if you are having no issues ignore.

Cool, thank you!

Before the fluid change it was slipping a bit. After changing out the fluid from the pan and leaving it with the pan off and front end elevated I got around 5 1/2 to 6 quarts out of it. The fluid was burnt up all black it looked more like dirty motor oil than tranny fluid.

I notice when I get on it now I've got a whine. It's not real bad and goes away under normal driving conditions. How far do you recommend I drive it before changing fluid again I've read everything from 2,500 to 20,000 miles? Full is what 8 1/2, or 8 3/4? So I figure I got 3/4 of the old stuff out.

I'm thinking it may be time to put the old girl up for sale.

Change or don't change, may not matter, sounds like it is on its way out, do you have a month or 2 more years? No clue but change is bad, if it slips again or makes more noise you kept it too long.
