Hi, I'm new to this forum. I searched existing posts to find a solution but have been unable to find one. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds. I have a 97 maxima GXE automatic. A few months ago it gradually developed a stalling/hesistation problem. It will stall or hesitate at about 800rpms in first gear and just hesititate at 1500rpms in second or third. It never stalls when going faster than 10mph. By hesitate I mean it seems to lose its breath, like a fuel starvation problem. It idles like a champ and cruises fine at 55mph. Accelerating seems to create the problem. The CEL does not come on. I took it to the mechanic a few times and had the MAF, fuel filter, spark plugs, air cleaner, egr valve replaced. Also the mechanic threw on the latest Snap On scanner to the ECM. He confirmed that no trouble code was produced during the stalling/hesitation and none was stored in memory. He checked all sensors to make sure they were operating properly. His final suggestion was a rebuilt transmission because he suspected there was a problem with the solenoid valves.(Even though there was no trouble code given off for it). I read on another site that a damaged wiring harness or malfunctioning A/T control unit could create a similar problem. I pulled the fuse on the A/T control unit and drove it around the block. This created the exact same stalling/hesitation problem I am having although the CEL did come on when running without the fuse in. The trouble code given was 0504 and 0804, both related to the AT control unit. Any ideas???

Welcome to NICO!

There's one spot I bet your mechanic missed: the MAF plug. Have him check the wires going into that plug and re solder if need be.

Will do. Wouldn't a open or shorted connection produce a trouble code?

On some sensors, yes. On the MAF, no.

Thanks. Gonna check the continuity in each wire through the plug tomorrow.

Checked the MAF plug. Everything is OK. Would it be worthwhile to check the continuity all the way to the ECM?
