ok... well the motor is a ka-e that I plan to turbo, but first I had the infamous timing chain rattle at start up. but some weird sound inbetween 2-3k rpm. I just finished the timing chain today...No start up rattle yay!!! but the 2-3krpm sound is still there. The sound is coming from the back of the motor close to the fire wall or bellhousing? I know the throw-out bearing is almost wasted so im thinking thats what it is? the motor was swapped from a auto. while the motor was in the old car the sound wasn't there? please dont flame me but I re-used the clutch (looked new) pressure plate and old throw-out bearing. Can someone please tell me what this damn sound is? thanks

so a pilot bushing could make this sound? my teacher at tech skl said it sounds like spark knock? but I dont think its spark knock b/c we just set the base timing to 18 degrees, and I've been running it making that sound for about 1500 miles w/ no adverse effects. I could borrow a friends MP3 player and record the sound. thanks

My ka24e did the same thing when i swapped out the old clutch with an ACT. It had a kinda irritating rattle to it around 2 to 3k rpm that sounded sorta like when ur heat shield rattles. That rattle seemed to have fixed itself over the course of a few weeks and now i have a different type of rattle comming from the clutch only when the clutch is out. When the pedal is in its fine so im thinking throw out bearing?

I would rule out detonation (spark knock) if it happpens during normal acceleration too. If it happens all the time it's most likely something else. If it happens only during high load situations (floor it at 30 mph in 5th) it may be knock, but unlikely unless you are running kerosine.

well it happends during everything but closed throttle and WOT. In high load (30mph in 5th) it is silent. I usually run 89 octane and my back bumper usually has a nice coat of soot on it. I would say lifters but It doesnt do it at idle. ugh this is starting to be a PITA. thanks
