today i was installing a radio in my recently purchased 90 z n/a. After I installed the radio, I started the car no problem. The car was a little low on coolant and it started to overheat a little so I turned the car off let it sit for 10 min then added coolant. After I added coolant, the car started but the car was still getting hot so i shut it down. I waited 20 min to let it cool and then tried to start it and it wont start. It turns over but it wont start. The car also have a timing problem, the belt is off by 1 or 2 teeth. Could this be the culprit to why the car don't start or the car has cooling a cooling problem? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

those are some serious problems. over heating can cause the heads to warp and or damage the head gasket. depending on how far off the timing belt is you run the risk of bending valves. lets hope there is some simple answer that fixes it for you but from what your telling me it could be pretty bad

i hope it's not your daily driver, i'd get that timing belt fixed first, 1 or 2 notches can be a big deal, even in a NA. if it was me, i'd park it and get her all fixed up for a few days. Otherwise pull the negative cable from the battery and let it sit for about a half hour, then put it back on. this should clear the ECU learning memory, make sure the car is cool, start her up and see.

has this happened before? how long have you been the Z's owner?

no i just got this car it was in bad shape when i brought it. I am planning on fixing it up for it to be my daily driver. i just finish putting the interior back together and replaced the spark plugs.

Fill out your location so we can suggest local members you can turn to for help. A timing belt job, while not insanely difficult, is not for novices.
