I have balanced, checked for bent wheels, aligned. I am almost thinking something in my frontend is wrong.

It does it at certain speeds and acts funny when turning on an on or off ramp a little fast. It really does it in the morning when i get on the express way after i use the on ramp, and how bad it gets depends on how fast i take the on ramp. It starts the shimmy at around 45 to 50. Would anyone have any ideas or know someone local that would know how to fix.

I live in Louisville, Kentucky

My tires gave me a fit till I replaced them

You can also go to Haynes and check the front endparts (ball joints, arms etc)

Who did your alignment?

I would go to Tony's on Poplar Level Rd and have them check it out.

Haynes and Chiltons are repair manuals

Your local library might have them-they have mine

Also check the AutoZone website for schematics

Get under your car and check the CV jointsfor torn rubber boots.

Also, they could be bent causing vibration.

See if the seals for them are leaking too.

As far as I'm concerned, Sams does tires... When was the last time you had it to a shop for an alignment? It sounds to me either something in the steering gear assembly or possibly the front end assembly. Take it to a shop that can handle the diag of these items, they will set you straight (no pun intented).

They said nothing was wrong with the front end. They said it might be the axel, so they said to see if it shimmies when it is neutral, and if it doesn’t it might be a good possibility that it is the axel, but it was still there in neutral.

Does anyone think it might be the suspension?

I think they should check the ball joints and tie rodsby moving the wheels with a steel bar and see if there is any play or looseness

-go to Autozone or Pepboys and buy a Haynes Auto Manual-gret under your car and look for anything that doesn't "look right"

-have you had your rotors checked to see if they are warpped?

after looking at it yourself, if you come to the conclusion that you cant figure it out, or cant do the work yourself...take it to a pro

if i am not able to figure out something on my car, i usually go to the dealer and have them do a diagnostics....chances are you're not going to get it checked out for free b/c it would take time for the mechanic to take a look at it...and time means money.

it sounds like you took it to the right place...but did they take off your rotors and check them??!! If they did, but that wasn't the problem, take your car to your nearest dealer.

If you want, I can take a look at it for you. I might be able to take a look at it for you this Saturday (if you bring it by my work), or Sunday if you have a floor jack.

He may have a caliper seized shut causing the wheels to shimmy.

Do they make a sound as well??

Whatever it is if you figure it out maxhopper let us all know the outcome!!

LMK if you two are going to hook up. I have a garage, ramps and floor jack available if needed

I had constant shimmy problems with my previous rim/tire combo. I assumed the problem was the rims yet the last time I had it in for a balance/rotation (with those rims) they said the rims were not bad and actually balanced well. Finally, I put new tires on the rims and 80% of the vibration went away. Since then I have changed to new rims with the same (new) tires and I have relatively no vibration at all.

Sorry Matt, I didn't see you had posted.

Bobcat came by the dealership yesterday, and we went on a test drive. I felt a vibration, but the steering wheel was fairly steady (not pulling one way or the other). We got back to the shop and I put the car on a lift. I found no play in the wheel bearings, axles or suspension.

Bobcat had told me that he's had to get the wheels rebalanced about every month, so I figured we'd check that out. I had my tech balance all 4 wheels (all 4 where out of balance). And he also found that the wheel on the rear driver's side was bent on the inside lip. We looked on http://www.car-parts.com, and found a few wheels within approx 100 miles for $85-100.

Hopefully he'll post up, and let us know how it's doing in the coming days.

I know right.

I called up Grade A junk yard and they said that they could get me a new rim for 125, so that would save me a couple dollars instead of a 100 mile drive. The wheels are still vibrating, so i think i just need to get that stupid *** rim replaced.

I will be doing that i think this week.
