Hi there, haven't posted in a while, hope everyone's doing ok ^_^.

So yea, i've had my '89 S13 coupe for a while now (got it January of this year) and have some various ups and downs. First the stock speakers were 'terrible' and got those replaced with some nifty pioneers (yea, I know there are probably better companies, but I just got a thing for pioneer :D ). My clutch also went out about a month after getting the car (car came with 110k miles, so I wasn't terribly suprised by this, but was still a drag =\). Whats been the weirdest thing though, has been my odd experiences with my fuel injectors...

It started about 2 months into getting my S13 when one day while driving down the road my 'check engine' light went on. I was pretty much like 'damn, what now? -_-' cause I just replaced the clutch that weak so brought it to the shop and they said it was a leaky fuel injector. Well, before buying my s13, I pretty much read the entire faq here at 240sx.org so I'd heard about other owners having injector leak issues around my mileage. What I wasn't counting on was my mechanic telling me it'd be around 400-500 bucks to replace all my injectors O_o.

Now here's where my story gets kinda weird. Now I pretty much didn't have the money to go replacing 4 injectors so I pretty much had to drive on some pretty crappy mileage for a week or two (we're talking about 220 miles to the tank -_-). Well, eventually time came for my sheduled oil change and I decided to bring it to a local Jiffy Lube on sorta a spur of the moment thing. Well, I was out there for a little while (not too long though, hey, the're 'jiffy' for a reason ^_^) when one of the guys on duty told me that the whole fuel system was pretty dirty and the recommended an engine flush. It'd cost me an extra 20 bucks, but I was like, what the hey, my cars already kinda messed, maybe it'd help. ^_^ Well, let me tell you, after they were done and I started up my car, the engine light was off and my car was soaring! I filled up right after the oil change and I pulled 360 miles on that tank . ^_^. So yea, was pretty happy for awhile...

But then, gradually, after the next few fillups, my mileage gradually got worse. 340, 310, 280, and right after my next oil change, that dreaded light came back on -_-. So basically for the last few weeks i've been experiencing some weird occurences. After I stalled once leaving a friends house (he lives on a hill, yea, go ahead and laugh. It was embarrasing after driving manual for more than 1/2 a year -_-) and by the time I got home the light went back off O_o. Then a few days ago after leaving work, light comes back on and i'm like 'S#@#$%!". Then when I wake up the next morning, suprise, lights off again O_o. So now i'm not all that sure what to think. I mean, I guess it could be a faulty sensor, but then again my mileage has been kinda crappy lately. I have been having to pump some A/C lately too, though, so that could explain my less than stellar mileage. I guess what it all comes down to is this. As a fairly inexperienced car guy, how can I tell if I have a fairly minor problem of a sealant leak on my injectors or a more dire one, requiring a full replacement of all my injectors? O_o. Is there anything I can maybe see visibly under the hood that might help in determining if I really need 'all' my injectors replaced? (I mean, what if its just one thats leaking? I'd think it'd be kinda a waste replacing them all then =\). Finally, if its the seal or the injectors themselves, how hard would it be for me to attempt to just try replacing them myself or would bringing it to a shop be the best option for me? Well, thanks for reading through all this junk, i'm sure it hasn't been very interesting O_o. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

p.s. If anyone knows of a good nissan shop around the Diamond Bar/Hacienda Heights, CA area, could you please tell me? thanks! ^_^

have you pulled codes off the ecu yourself w/ the help of the 240sx.org site's instructions? fellow CA members can show you how...real easy...just to verify if it is an injector leak/code 45.

try http://www.autopartsgiant.com for reman replacements... i had all 4 changed since 2 were bad on my 89... the replacements are still goin strong.

or, go here http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....ctors

ooh check this out... "The California injector leak code is created by an out of tolerance O2......if the mixture is too rich it assumes the cause is an injector as it assumes you have changed the O2 every 60,000 miles per manufactuers recommendation.Change O2 and the problem will go away.Measure the cross counts with a Consult II..........the unit below 10 counts per second is the culprit." from a somewhat related thread... http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....ctors

It isn't hard to replace the injectors yourself. Read the procedure in a Chiltons or Factory Service Manual. You can go to a Nissan Dealership and ask to see the FSM, most of them will allow you to not only look at it, but make photo copies as well. Check for corrosion on the injectors and the rubber seals. Also check the hard rubber bushings that support the fuel rail for damage. Hope this helps.

wow thats weird....I feel you on the fuel injector thing though. so expensive. My ecu gave me a 45. I replaced all the seals on the injectors and tested the injectors for leakage according to the FSM. no leaks. I recently bought a can of Greased Lightning fuel system cleaner. Its an additive to your gas. After about half a tank of gas my engine light turned off. My guess is that crud built up in the injectors caused the injectors to stick a bit, making the fuel mixture rich. Some guy on this forum said his fuel pump was the culprit to his code 45. I thought it was interesting. Anyway, good luck with your problem!

well, a bit late, but here's an update of my situation ^_^

Well, after ricebike's reply I decided to go with replacing all my injectors with some python rebuilt injectors. I also went and replaced my 02 sensor as well (I figured the car was gettting kinda old and some new parts might make it happy ^_^). I found a local Nissan specialist that was able to do both the injectors and 02 for about 100 bucks labor and that was the end of it. I was originally gonna have a car friend of mine help me with doing the injectors ourselves, but looking at what we'd have to do to actually get under the fuel rail and such, would rather pay up some dough and have a professional do the dirty work ^^. Well, I gotta say, afterward my car was running GREAT =p idle is rock solid and I'm not sure I can really put it in words, but power just seems to be where its supposed to be ^^. All this work ended up costing me a bit more than I'd like (about 200 for parts, and 100 for labor) but I think its worth it if my car'll be running happy for a while =p. I'm also running over the idea of using some of this 'seafoam' stuff i've been hearing about in the forums, but i've also heard this'll require replacing my 02 sensors and spark plugs afterward (don't really wanna do this cause I just got a new sensor after all =\). I appreciate all the help everyone's given me about my little problem, thanks again ^^
