This is my first externally waste-gated turbo, and the manifold i have is alright, but could definitely use some time on my bench. Im worried however that the flange itself might not seal properly against the 'plunger' part of my wastegate. Here are the pics...

What do you think?

It'll do just fine. Order a metal 2-bolt gasket and rock on.

my wastegate sealing is the last thing i would worry about before putting on an ssac manifold.

He asked about his wastegate flange, not his choice of manifold. I've run two SSAC manifolds, one topmount and currently one bottom mount. Neither one has given me trouble. Most of the documented cases of the SSAC manifolds cracking show it to be a result of having no flex section in the downpipe, transferring weight and vibration from a heavy exhaust directly to the manifold.

If you're handy with a welder and your manifold cracks, who cares? Ya' just weld it back and rock on.

buh? I thought the external wastegates sealed to themselves, like say, a piston at tdc with the vent being a hole in the lower cylinder, as oppsed to a valve in the head. Weird metaphor, I know, but it's all I can think of and I think everyone in this forum can visualize.

edit: I only bring this up beacasue it looks like you want us to see inside the flange as opposed to it's flat surface.

right on bro. not to start anything, i must say people need to stop doing so much reading and actually test something before they put their foot in their mouth

that is all.

Don't mean to side track, I love the look and price of those mani's, but those mani's are for low boost setups.

My bottom mount seems to kick *** @ 15psi.

Back on topic: I think his primary concern is that the bevel inside the WG flange might not allow the WB seat ring to seal completely. So long as a metal gasket is used (because the standard gasket material pieces alway blow out), it'll seal up just fine. Heck, he might even get by with no gasket at all.

The older SSAC mani's were of very poor quality and were very prone to cracking. Not everyone can weld, alot of people live in apartments...I owned the top and bottom mount when I was looking to start a business a few years ago.

The new ones are supposedly redesigned. But regardless, they are 50 bucks...so you can buy 4-5 of them if you're worried.

If the wastegate does crack or seal badly the worst case will lack of boost, not to much. If it leaks badly, buy a 38MM flange and have it welded on in place of the current one.

I think his primary concern is that the bevel inside the WG flange might not allow the WB seat ring to seal completely. <--- True, so i dont have to worry about it eh?

Tech thanks for the explanation/visualization, that helped lol.

So, XS-Power(seller) on ebay is the same as SSAC, and all their stuff comes from xspower.com? When i bought this kit i bought it from a private seller who said everything came from XS engineering. Well, i revisited XS engineering and now they are calling themselves XS-Power. I knew when i got it it wasn't a high quality manifold, but at 9-10 pounds of boost it should hold up till im ready to upgrade. If it cracks ill weld it up, not THAT big of a pain(until it cracks on the underside of the collector..). Im actually thinking about swapping it out and getting a JGS weld your own log style mani, but i'll probably just run it and see what happens.

I think i was mislead by the seller to be honest with you, but thats my fault. XS engineering sounded like a reputable company and had a nice web page. I searched nico for XS engineering and didnt get much back, so i should have known.

Thanks guys ^^

Just to give you heads up I owned 2 of those manifolds ans they are junk and the Wastegate flange will actually blow off the manifold it happend to me twice. After the second time I said screw it and invested in a custom manifold and havnt had an issue since.

I think I still have the pictures at home of the blown manifold. Also its a scary sight to be getting on it and then boom and flame comes from under the hood. It makes you wonder about your motors health. Good thing it was just the manifold.
